The next edition of the SA20 has been pushed back and won't be played in its original window of January-February. The SA20 season 4 will be beginning on 26th December because South Africa won't be playing any Tests this summer.

The SA20, since the last three editions, gets underway after the Test summer, where the South Africa National Cricket Team play games in December and mid-January. After that, the tournament gets underway and is played in mid-February, as has been the case in the ongoing edition of the tournament.

We are still negotiating for a series, but there won’t be Test matches, definitely not on Boxing Day or New Year’s Day - Cricket South Africa CEO Pholetsi Moseki

But with no Test cricket this year, Cricket South Africa has taken a massive step. CEO Pholetsi Moseki talked about the development that they are looking to play some series but confirmed that it will be a white-ball affair and not red-ball. Speaking to the Sunday Times, he said:

There’s also the T20 World Cup in February 2026, so it’s a nice opportunity for the players - Cricket South Africa CEO Pholetsi Moseki on SA20 season 4 starting in December

CEO Pholetsi Moseki added that hosting a Test match will be challenging for them before adding that playing the tournament ahead of the T20 World Cup in February 2026 will be a great opportunity for players to get prepared. He added:

"Hosting a Test becomes logistically challenging at a late stage like this. There’s also the T20 World Cup in February 2026, so it’s a nice opportunity for the players before that tournament.”
