Sachin Tendulkar Busts A Deep Fake Video Which Shows Him Promoting An App
Legendary India cricketer and Bharat Ratna, Sachin Tendulkar became a victim of deep fakes created by AI tools. He busted a fake video that claimed his daughter Sara Tendulkar earns money through an online video game. The former Indian skipper demanded swift action to stop the spreading of such misinformation in a strongly-worded tweet on ‘X’ (formerly known as Twitter).
The Indian legend posted a video that used AI to create a fake portrayal of him narrating how a new app has helped his daughter earn easy money. In the video, Sachin could be seen talking about the merits of this app and also saying that he did not know that making big money was this easy in today’s time. Sachin Tendulkar wrote a strong-worded response urging people to report these kinds of videos, apps, and ads in large numbers.
“These videos are fake. It is disturbing to see rampant misuse of technology. Request everyone to report videos, ads & apps like these in large numbers. Social Media platforms need to be alert and responsive to complaints. Swift action from their end is crucial to stopping the spread of misinformation and deepfakes,” Sachin wrote.
The most alarming thing about the video is the fact that the audio used in it matches Sachin Tendulkar’s original voice. If the editing and lip-syncing were better then it would have been very difficult for anyone to doubt it. Notably, multiple AI platforms can create a nearly exact audio sample of renowned people from different parts of the world. The only thing one needs to do is to add the correct input and the AI can create the exact Audio and even visuals of notable personalities.

This is not the first time that the Tendulkar family has been the victim of online imposters. Last year, Sara Tendulkar took to social media to aware people of her fake IDs being created on the social media platform ‘X’. She also confirmed that she didn’t have an official ID on ‘X’ and urged the platform to take swift action on the IDs that were trying to impersonate her.
“Social media is a wonderful space for all of us to share our joys, sorrows, and daily activities. However, it is disconcerting to see the misuse of technology as it takes away from the truth and authenticity of the internet. I have come across some deepfake photos of me which are far from reality,” she wrote.
“A few accounts on X (formerly Twitter) have obviously been created with the intent to impersonate me and mislead people. I do not have an account on X, and I hope X looks into such accounts and suspends them,” she added while urging X to take action.
A 39-year-old Engineer from Mumbai was allegedly arrested back in 2018 for impersonating Sara Tendulkar on Twitter. The Tendulkar’s lodged an official complaint back then. The deep fakes created by AIs are being misused to a large extent and people, especially renowned personalities need to be aware of these activities.
