In his first Ask Me Anything session on the social media platform Reddit, legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar praised Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for carrying the same legacy as him for the Indian team, but at the same time, he avoided naming any future suitors for the same role.
Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar recently took to Reddit to address his fans in an interactive 'Ask Me Anything' session, where he tried to answer every query sent in by his fans for the star cricketer. He had some special praise reserved for modern-day legendary cricketers Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
Sachin played for India from 1989, having made his debut at the age of 16, and played till 2013 before he announced his retirement after 24 years of service to Indian cricket. His numbers seem unbeatable for any batter, as he amassed 18000+ ODI runs and 15500+ Test runs in his career.
Sachin praises Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for their massive legacy in Indian cricket
Just after Sachin had sent in the update for the session, an old fan of his immediately took to the internet and questioned him about one of the most recent and most discussed questions in Indian cricket.
Praising Sachin for rightly predicting the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma as the successors to his legacy back in 2010, he was asked who he foresees as the next generation superstar for India after the Ro-Ko duo retires.
"You had said around 2010 that Virat Kohli & Rohit will carry your legacy, and you were bang on. Now, who do you feel is well-suited to carry it further?"
"Yes! Virat and Rohit have made India proud on many occasions. Indian Cricket is in good hands, and they played well in England. There are many contenders to take the legacy forward," replied the God of Cricket.
He praised the two veterans for having kept the batting legacy after he retired and highlighted how the two batters have also had some great stats in England, which is quite a rare feat for Indian batters, including the great Sachin Tendulkar, especially in the longest format of the game.

Sachin snubs Shubman Gill as he avoids naming any future players to extend India's legacy in batting
Though Sachin answered the first part of the question very well, he completely avoided answering the second part, as he did not want to name any particular cricketer.
Such remarks often trigger big controversies, and a typical Sachin-like behaviour would have barred him from making any remark that triggers controversies. Though it still raises the question that Shubman Gill might not have been the obvious one-stop solution for all cricket pundits, just like Virat Kohli was during his early days.
It seems imminent that Shubman Gill is being promoted as the next big thing in Indian cricket; however, avoiding any answers and even the slightest hint towards the Indian Test skipper, Tendulkar, has kept him away from ticking on Indian management's obvious choice.
Rohit Sharma's fate in ODI cricket to be decided post Asia Cup; Virat Kohli remains unmoved
Rohit Sharma, the veteran Indian skipper who captained India to glory in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, while also having captained them in the finals of CWC 2023 and the WTC 2023, has already retired from the T20 and Test formats.
However, the man of the match from the last ODI game India played internationally, the Champions Trophy final, Rohit, has been considered to be dropped from the Indian team. His form, despite not being a concern, has probably been advised to consider retirement ahead of the Australia series, as suggested by some media reports.
These plans have been made citing the 2027 ICC World Cup, which, for now, seems too distant to the Indian veteran since he would be 40 years old by that time, and with his questionable fitness, he remains doubtful for the big tournament. Virat Kohli's position, though, remains unchallenged in the Indian ODI setup.
