Former India National Cricket Team batter Sachin Tendulkar revealed how he requested BCCI to stage the last match of his career in his home ground at the Wankhede Stadium. He said that he wanted his mother to see him play as she was not well and could travel only to that venue.

Sachin Tendulkar ended his career as the best batter the game of cricket has ever witnessed. The batting great played his last game in the longest format of the game during the home Test series against the West Indies National Cricket Team at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Sachin Tendulkar slammed a magnificent half-century and ended with a knock of 73 runs in his last Test

It's fair to say that his last Test seemed more than a festival in Mumbai as the Wankhede Stadium was packed, and all that was audible was "Sachin Sachin" chants. The match was played from November 14–16, and it was the perfect ending for him.

Sachin Tendulkar slammed a magnificent half-century and ended with a knock of 73 runs. Along with him, centuries from Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara helped India win the game by a massive margin of innings and 126 runs.

I wanted her to see why I have been moving to different places for 24 years - Sachin Tendulkar on

While talking about his last match, Sachin Tendulkar said that he told BCCI to keep his last Test in Wankhede so that his mother could see why he moved to different places for 24 years. Speaking on the 50th anniversary of Wankhede Stadium, he said:

"Before the series was announced, I got in touch with the BCCI and made one request. I asked that I wanted my last match to be held in Mumbai for one reason: I played cricket for so many years—24 years for India, and nearly 30 years overall. But my mother had never seen me play.

"At that time (during the farewell Test), my mother's health was not good. She could not travel anywhere other than Wankhede to watch me play. I wanted her to see why I have been moving to different places for 24 years. The BCCI very graciously accepted that request."

I was a bit emotional, my eyes were tearing up - Sachin Tendulkar

While talking about playing the last Test, he mentioned that with the kind of reception that he got from the crowd and West Indies, he got emotional. He also talked about how the broadcaster played with his emotions by showing images of his mother and other members of his emotional family. He added:

"When I went in to bat on the first day, it was towards the end of play. When I walked out to bat, the West Indies players gave me a lot of respect. The crowd gave me a very good reception. I was a bit emotional. My eyes were tearing up, but I had to focus. I had to bat. But, just before the last over, I saw the big screen at the stadium.

"There was a close-up frame of my mother. She didn’t realise that she was being shown on the big screen. I was thinking if all these shots were necessary because it was the last six balls of the day. I doubted the director of the broadcast had a West Indies passport because I thought he was acting in favour of the West Indies. He was playing with my emotions."
