The ongoing Ranji Trophy 2022 saw Bihar’s Sakibul Gani create history as he became the first batter in First-Class cricket to score a triple ton on his debut, as he slammed 341 against Mizoram at the Jadavpur University Campus ground in Salt Lake in Kolkata on the second day of their encounter.
Earlier, the tournament saw Delhi’s Yash Dhull scoring a century on his Ranji Trophy and First-Class debut and Ajinkya Rahane coming back into the form with a century for Mumbai.
22-year-old Sakibul Gani not only scored a century but went on to convert the score into a triple century, which is the first score of over 300 by a batter in this ongoing Ranji Trophy 2022. Sakibul Gani has become the first-ever player to register a triple ton on a first-class debut and it took him 387 deliveries along with 50 boundaries to achieve this feat.
Sakibul Gani Breaks Ajay Rohera’s Record Of Highest Individual Score On Ranji Trophy Debut
February 18, 2022, will be etched in Indian and world cricket history as Gani became the first batter ever to score a triple century on his FC and Ranji debut. He broke the record of Madhya Pradesh’s Ajay Rohera who amassed an unbeaten 267 on FC debut against Hyderabad in the 2018/19 Ranji Trophy season.
Apart from this, Gani added 538 runs for the fourth wicket with Babul Kumar, after Bihar won the toss against Mizoram and captain Ashutosh Aman decided to bat first. Opener Yashasvi Rishav made 38 and Lakhan Raja made 25 runs, but the team faltered to 71/3.
But then Gani and Kumar took charge of the innings and frustrated the Mizoram bowlers in a record partnership. Babul Kumar had scored 227 runs at the time of writing this article. Meanwhile, Gani fell for 341 runs, which came in 405 balls with 56 fours and 2 sixes.
