MCC release statement on the Salman Ali Agha run-out: The Bangladesh vs Pakistan three-match ODI series has been concluded. The hosts won the series 2-1, beating an inexperienced Pakistan side in the final ODI by 11 runs. The Bangla Tigers completely dominated the first ODI, bowling the Men in Green out for just 114 runs and chasing the target with 8 wickets in hand.
During the second ODI, Pakistan won the match and coincidentally bundled out the home side for the same runs, 114, while they were chasing 274 runs. In the 2nd ODI, a controversial incident occurred with Salman Ali Agha and Mehidy Hasan Miraz. After Mohammad Rizwan hit a delivery to mid-on while Miraz was bowling, and tried to stop it, he became entangled with non-striker Salman Agha.
Salman Ali Agha reprimanded by ICC
The Bangladesh captain did stop the ball, which came near to the non-striker Salman Ali Agha, who was some distance away from the crease. Agha tried to stop the ball and pick it up, presumably to return it to the bowler. However, the opponent skipper picked the ball up and threw it onto the stumps, causing a run out.

On appeal, Agha was declared run out, and the batter was furious after being given out on a unusual manner. Agha used awful hand gestures and said something unusual, and was thus reprimanded by the International Cricket Council (ICC) following his actions.
MCC releases statement on controversial run-out
Now Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), the guardians of the laws of cricket, have their version on the run-out incident. MCC said, “Under Laws, there is little that either umpire could have done differently. The non-striker was clearly out of his ground when the wicket was broken, and the ball was in play. That is out.”
“It is also worth pointing out that the non-striker had left his ground when the ball was in play and had just started to attempt to regain his ground when he collided with Mehidy. Furthermore, no batter should attempt to pick the ball up without the consent of the fielding side, and had he done so, he would have been at risk of an obstructing the field dismissal.”

MCC further added, “In retrospect, he would have been better using that time to attempt to regain his ground. There have been some suggestions that the ball should have been treated as Dead. That is not viable under the Laws; the ball does not become dead when players collide – if it did, that would incentivise players to seek out collisions when the situation was advantageous.”
MCC said, “There was no question of a serious injury, so there could be no call of Dead ball for that. It could not have been clear to the umpire that all the players ceased to consider the ball to be in play, since Mehidy clearly believed it was live, even if Agha did not. And it cannot have been finally settled in the hands of the bowler or wicket-keeper, since it was on the ground.”
New Laws introduced by MCC
The MCC also discussed the new law that is going to come on in October. Only the umpire on the ground will decide if and whether the ball is dead or not.
MCC stated, “Under the new Laws, which will come into effect in October, an umpire will be able to determine that the ball is finally settled if it is stationary on the ground. However, it is hard to make an argument that the ball is finally settled if the nearest fielder to it is attempting to run the non-striker out, with that non-striker out of their ground.”
“There is no case, therefore, to be made that this was not out under the law, nor that the Law could be rewritten to somehow make a situation like this not out.”
