Sameer Rizvi has become the most expensive uncapped player in the ongoing IPL auction 2024 after Chennai Super Kings signed him for Rs 8.40 crores. He had registered himself at a base price of Rs 20 lakh.
Chennai Super Kings began the bidding for the player and were soon joined by Gujarat Titans. Both the teams made it clear that they were desperate to sign the highly-rated youngster as they went big for him. In no time, the bid soared to Rs 5 crores.
The bidding continued before Gujarat Titans pulled out at Rs 7.60 crores and were replaced by Delhi Capitals. Chennai Super Kings soon upped the ante by bidding Rs 8 crores for the batsman and eventually signed him for Rs 8.40 crores. Before Sameer Rizvi, Vidarbha’s Shubham Dubey had also earned a lucrative IPL contract. The uncapped player was signed up by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 5.80 crores.
Sameer Rizvi was widely tipped to cause a bidding war in the IPL auction after his heroics in the inaugural UP T20 League. The 20-year-old caught everyone’s attention with his batting while plying his trade for Kanpur Superstars.
The right-handed batsman hit two whirlwind centuries and finished the competition with 455 runs in 9 games. The brilliant displays for Kanpur Superstars helped him earn trials at three IPL franchises. However, he could not attend the trials due to his commitments to the state team.
He then impressed for UP U23 team by smashing 95 off just 65 balls in a one-day game against Rajasthan. In the final of the tournament, he hit 84 off just 50 balls to help his team win the competition. Sameer Rizvi finished the competition as the highest run-scorer. He averages close to 50 in 11 T20s and has a strike rate of over 134.
