Sanjay Bangar reveals Punjab Kings’ strategy to acquire Rohit Sharma at IPL 2025 auction

Sanjay Bangar has revealed the strategy of Punjab Kings for the IPL 2025 mega-auction if Mumbai Indians release Rohit Sharma. Bangar revealed that Rohit will have a very high demand if his name comes to the auction table.

Sanjay Bangar is currently the Head of Cricket Development at Punjab Kings. Punjab is one of the three teams in Indian Premier League (IPL) history who are yet to win a trophy so far. Apart from these teams, Lucknow Super Giants have also not won a trophy but they have played just three seasons so far.

The upcoming mega-auction will be huge for Punjab Kings as they aim to create a world-class team that will serve them for the next few years. Clearly, they have a lot of work to do in the auction table.

Sanjay Bangar reveals Punjab Kings' strategy if Rohit Sharma leaves Mumbai Indians

During a podcast, Sanjay Bangar was asked about Punjab Kings' planning if Rohit Sharma is released by Mumbai Indians. Bangar replied that it depended on the amount of money left with the franchise at that time. He also added that Rohit Sharma will go at a "very high price" if it happens.

"It all depends whether we have money in our pockets or not because if Rohit (Sharma) comes into the auction, I certainly believe that he is going to go at a very high price," Bangar said on a video posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Delhi Capitals, and Lucknow Super Giants are the only IPL teams left so far who have not won any IPL trophy so far.

Punjab Kings IPL record

Punjab's best season came way back in 2014 when they reached the final but lost to Kolkata Knight Riders in the summit clash. They also made it to the semi-finals of the inaugural IPL season in 2008 but lost to eventual champions Rajasthan Royals.

Regular chopping and changing of squads have not helped their cause as Punjab has struggled for consistency over the years. The team management has some work to do if they aim to make a good team ahead of IPL 2025.

If Rohit Sharma joins the Punjab Kings, it will be a huge boost to the franchise's chances. Rohit is the joint-most successful captain in the history of IPL along with MS Dhoni. Rohit Sharma has won five IPL titles with Mumbai Indians between the period 2013-2020. Recently, he also led India to the T20 World Cup 2024 title win.

Before IPL 2024, Mumbai Indians removed Rohit Sharma as their captain and appointed Hardik Pandya as their new captain. Rohit's last few IPL seasons have not gone well with the bat but his recent form in international cricket has been brilliant.
