Former Indian batting coach and cricket expert Sanjay Bangar has expressed his surprise at Rohit Sharma’s ongoing struggle to find his rhythm at the start of the ongoing IPL 2025. Sanjay Bangar believes that Rohit Sharma must look at this season as a challenge to silence the critics and prove his mettle once again as one of the IPL’s legends.
The former Mumbai Indians skipper has yet again found himself under the scanner following his poor start to the IPL 2025 campaign after playing a key role in India’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 triumph last month.
Rohit Sharma's batting woes continue in the IPL 2025
Despite being one of the most celebrated batters in the world, Rohit’s early struggles in the IPL have become a recurring trend, leaving fans and analysts frustrated. While some players, like Virat Kohli, maintain a consistent template and churn out runs, Rohit’s game often appears to need a push at the beginning of every IPL season.
India's Test and ODI captains' form in the ongoing IPL 2025 has been disappointing so far, with scores of 0, 8, and 13 in their first three matches. Even over the last five IPL seasons, Rohit has managed to cross the 400-run mark just once.
Sanjay Bangar suggests Rohit Sharma bring his A-game
Well, many are wondering why Rohit struggles to make runs at the start of the season, and even Bangar noted he was surprised by his overwhelming performances for the Mumbai Indians. Bangar feels that Rohit needs to bring his A-game, especially after the challenges he faced on the Australia tour.
Sanjay Bangar was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo: “Hard to fathom why that happens, but if that is the case, then he can clearly look at this season as a challenge because three or four months into the new season, maybe this new year, things have been a little bit different for Rohit ever since the Australia series.
So, he would certainly want to leave his mark and bring his A-game because he understands being an MI captain, how critical it is for MI, and how much pride they take in winning.”

Sanjay Bangar questions Rohit Sharma's agility and technique amid IPL 2025 struggles
The former Indian batting coach also stressed that there’s definitely a need to look at Rohit’s technique, especially at the start of his innings. The former RCB head coach also noted that the Indian captain needs to be more agile from the very first ball, getting his weight on the balls of his feet to tackle the early challenges and regain his form with the bat.
Bangar signed off by saying, “For me, clearly, he has to be more agile right at the start of his innings, and that all boils down to how he can get his weight on the balls of his feet.”
Earlier, former England captain Michael Vaughan also slammed Rohit Sharma’s poor performances in the ongoing IPL 2025 season. However, Vaughan feels Mumbai Indians need Rohit in the playing XI, but the Indian captain must provide the franchise a cracking start if they want to do well this season.
