England captain Ben Stokes has landed in hot water after an animated exchange with Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar during the final day of the fourth Test in Manchester. With the match clearly heading toward a draw on Day 5, Ben Stokes offered a handshake to end the game early, but Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar had other plans.
Jadeja and Sundar were both closing in on their centuries and decided to carry on instead of accepting the England captain’s offer. Stokes, seemingly frustrated, turned to part-timers Harry Brook and Joe Root to rest his main bowlers with the result already looking inevitable in Manchester.
Sanjay Manjrekar calls Ben Stokes “Spoiled Kid” over Manchester drama
Well, the Indian all-rounders went on to complete their respective centuries before eventually agreeing to end the match with a draw. But the fiery moment sparked a massive debate among the cricket experts, and Sanjay Manjrekar slammed Stokes’ behavior, calling him a “spoiled kid.”

Sanjay Manjrekar said on JioStar, “In the end, what you saw was Ben Stokes frustrated, not used to that kind of result. And finally, I will say this. He was a bit of a spoiled sport and behaved like a spoiled kid. Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar had batted for hours, and getting this close to a hundred, there was no way they were going to accept.
Ben Stokes will rue what he has done. But it tells you exactly how frustrated England is, and all this is only because of the kind of fight this new-age Indian batting has put up.”
Jonathan Trott hits back at Sanjay Manjrekar, defends Stokes
However, former England batter Jonathan Trott backed Stokes during the same discussion, saying, “Common practice in England, and Ben Stokes’ mentality, is that there are no personal milestones. If you get offered to end the game earlier, it’s taken.”
Manjrekar quickly responded, as the former Indian batter has pointed out that the world doesn’t follow the English way of cricket. The commentator said, “Trott comes from a different culture. The whole world doesn’t play as per the English way of cricket.”
Nasser Hussain defends Ravindra Jadeja-Washington Sundar, says Stokes made England look silly
However, former England captain Nasser Hussain had no issue with India continuing to bat despite Stokes’ offer for a draw in Manchester. He felt that England’s bowlers were just tired, while Jadeja and Sundar had worked hard and deserved to reach their centuries.
Hussain also pointed out that Stokes didn’t need to bring on part-time bowlers like Brook and said that the England players were overreacting to the situation. He praised India’s effort and gave them full credit for their performance that denied the hosts the series-clinching victory in Manchester.
Nasser Hussain was quoted as saying by Sky Sports: “I didn’t have a problem with it. England seemed to have a problem with it. They were a bit tired, tired bowlers, so they wanted to get off, but two lads worked hard to get to 80s and 90s, and they wanted to get Test match hundreds. Stokes didn’t have to bowl Brook and look silly at the end. They played well, and all credit to India.”
