Sanjay Manjrekar has once again taken social media by storm with his fiery reaction to India’s Test squad for the high-stakes England tour. As fans and experts struggle to digest the surprising inclusions and shocking omissions, Manjrekar’s sharp dig at the selectors instantly got fans talking.
Without mentioning anybody’s name, the outspoken cricket pundit lashed out at the Ajit Agarkar-led Indian selection committee for making puzzling choices, calling the overall selection "strange" for the upcoming five-match Test series against England, starting on June 20.
Sanjay Manjrekar questions Ajit Agarkar’s puzzling picks for the England tour
The former Indian batter has openly questioned the decisions made by the selectors, as he was seemingly puzzled by the sudden return of veteran players like Shardul Thakur, Abhimanyu Easwaran, and Karun Nair and the exclusion of in-form talents like Shreyas Iyer and Sarfaraz Khan.
With India entering a new era of Test cricket, especially with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma stepping away from the format, Manjrekar has boldly said that this Indian team will travel to England with nothing to lose.

However, the commentator emphasized that the people should not expect immediate success as the team is in the transition phase, calling for patience with the long-term investments with Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant set to begin the new era next month.
Sanjay Manjrekar posted on X after the Test squad announcement: “Strange team selection overall. But India goes to England with nothing to lose. It’s a team in transition, so we can only wish it the very best & yes, be patient when it comes to returns on investment. 👍”

Ajit Agarkar drops a big hint on India’s new opening pair for the England tour
Meanwhile, Indian chief selector Ajit Agarkar hinted that Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul are highly likely to be the new opening pair on the England tour after Rohit Sharma’s retirement, but noted that they have not yet finalized the openers.

Agarkar stated, “Gautam Gambhir and Shubman Gill might take a call on opener once they get there. But once they get there, they’ll have a think about that.”
Notably, at 25 years and 258 days, Shubman Gill has become the fifth-youngest cricketer to captain India in Tests. He joins an elite list of Indian legends, including Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi (21 years, 77 days), Sachin Tendulkar (23 years, 169 days), Kapil Dev (24 years, 48 days), and Ravi Shastri (25 years, 229 days).
