Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar shared his take on the debate of the best ODI batter between Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar. The cricketer-turned-commentator was in awe of both the players and also pointed out one difference that separates the players.

Sachin Tendulkar and Kohli are arguably two of the greatest batters to have played the ODI cricket. The amount of success that they have had is unmatchable, and the one thing that has been common between the teams is that they won many games for the team single-handedly.

Virat Kohli has broken several records of Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar, who is known as the God of Cricket, set massive records in the ODIs. However, it was Virat Kohli, who broke those records and is still doing it. The current India National Cricket Team batter bettered Tendulkar's efforts by huge margins, setting different standards altogether.

Kohli, during the ICC World Cup 2023, broke Sachin Tendulkar's massive record of 49 centuries in ODI cricket. The other major record that the batter currently broke was the fastest to 140000 runs, which Kohli achieved in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Kohli achieved the feat in just 287 innings while Tendulkar took 350 innings to the feat. With the current India batter breaking a lot of records of Tendulkar, there often has been a lot of debate about who among them is best.

I think Virat Kohli is a better chaser than Sachin Tendulkar - Sanjay Manjrekar

Sanjay Manjrekar, while talking about Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar, pointed out the difference between the two. He rated Kohli as a better chaser, saying that it is all about winning matches. Speaking to Star Sports, he said:

"One major difference between the two is that I think Virat Kohli is a better chaser than Sachin Tendulkar. Tendulkar liked batting first and Tendulkar perhaps was a certainty that he was not going to get out against the new ball. But, it's about winning matches.”

Tendulkar has a few matches but not the numbers that Virat Kohli has - Sanjay Manjrekar

Sanjay Manjrekar further pointed out that Kohli has chased down a lot of targets and has superior numbers as compared to Sachin Tendulkar. While talking about the same, he said:

"Virat will have a number of matches where he has chased down the target and has stayed on till the end. Tendulkar has a few matches but not the numbers that Virat Kohli has. But apart from that, Tendulkar had everything. But one area where Virat Kohli is better than the God of Cricket is chasing runs,”

In the chases, Sachin Tendulkar mustered 8,720 runs in 232 innings, with 26 not outs, at an average of 42.33. He also hit 52 half-centuries and 17 centuries. On the other hand, Kohli has scored 7,979 runs in 158 innings while chasing, with 34 not outs, at an average of 64.35, along with 40 half-centuries and 28 centuries.
