Indian wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson is unlikely to join the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Presently, Sanju Samson is part of the Rajasthan Royals, and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is not yet ready for any big transfers for the Kerala star.

Samson, who is currently part of Team India in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE, is likely to enter the IPL 2026 auction or stay with Rajasthan Royals, as the Chennai Super Kings is taking every step wisely and exploring more options ahead of the next season.

As reported by The Indian Express, a five-day trial camp is underway at their High-Performance Centre on the outskirts of Chennai, where as many as 40–50 hopefuls are showcasing their skills under the watchful eyes of CSK head coach Stephen Fleming and fielding coach Rajiv Kumar.

It is also being said that MS Dhoni is keeping a close eye on the massive five-day trial camp in Chennai. However, it is not clear whether the CSK icon is present at the camp.

Chennai Super Kings keep options open for IPL 2026

Meanwhile, speculations were rife about CSK eyeing Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson for a blockbuster move, but The Indian Express report revealed that such a transfer looks highly unlikely, at least for now.

They are exploring all the options at the moment. With uncertainty surrounding Sanju Samson’s availability in the auction pool, CSK is wisely keeping its options wide open.

The franchise knows that its batting unit lacked punch, and the reluctance to trust young, uncapped Indian players backfired badly. So, they are now determined not to repeat those mistakes, and for that, they have brought in fresh domestic talents from across India, including stars who impressed in state-run T20 leagues in recent months.

It is also being said that the Chennai Super Kings have already spotted some bright prospects in the five-day camp, which is set to finish on Saturday, September 20. With the IPL auction 2026 around the corner, CSK’s rebuilding mission has officially begun as they are now desperate to roar again.

Sanju Samson’s slow but steady fifty rescues India after a shocking batting collapse in Abu Dhabi

Meanwhile, Sanju Samson finally got his chance with the bat in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 and made it count with a steady half-century against Oman at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium on Friday, September 19. After not getting an opportunity to bat in India’s first two group games against the UAE and Pakistan, Samson made his presence felt by playing a patient knock of 56 runs from 45 balls.

It was Samson’s slowest T20I fifty, taking 41 balls to reach the milestone. But the innings came at the right time for India after Shubman Gill fell early for just 5 runs. Samson built the innings with control, scoring 35 runs on the off side and 21 on the leg, helping India reach 188/8.

The Kerala star was sent at the number three after he was dropped down in the order, and he repaid the faith by being the top scorer for the side in a surprising collapse against Oman. Later, India restricted Oman to 167 runs to finish the group as the only unbeaten side from Group A.
