England captain Harry Brook walked off the field with visible frustration after India won the high-voltage semifinal by 7 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai to reach the T20 World Cup 2026 final. India will now face New Zealand in the title clash on March 8 in Ahmedabad.
Several fielding blunders played a massive role in England’s heart-breaking defeat against India on March 5. The moment came early in India’s innings when a simple Sanju Samson chance flew towards Harry Brook at mid-on, but he misjudged the catch and the ball slipped away.

Later, England fought hard but fell just 7 runs short of the target. Following Samson’s aggressive and destructive innings, England also made another mistake in the field later in the innings.
Tom Banton failed to grab a difficult running catch that could have removed Hardik Pandya. Even though Brook later produced a sharp direct hit to run out Shivam Dube, the earlier dropped chances kept hurting England as the match went down to the wire.
Harry Brook admits fielding mistakes hurt England badly
After the crushing defeat against India, Harry Brook openly admitted that his dropped catch of Sanju Samson turned into a nightmare for England in the semifinal. The England captain accepted that the moment kept troubling him throughout the game as Samson kept hitting his bowlers all around the ground.
Brook admitted that the miss was a huge mistake, and he knew instantly how costly it could become. As Samson’s score kept climbing on the big screen, the pressure only grew on Brook, and at one stage, he even felt that he would need to play a massive knock himself to make up for the costly error.

Unfortunately for England, Brook himself could not make up for the mistake. His innings ended very early after a brilliant fielding effort by Axar Patel, who ran a long distance and completed a stunning diving catch off Jasprit Bumrah. The skipper could face only 6 balls for 7 runs in the big game.
I made a big mistake: England Captain
Harry Brook said at the post-match presentation, “I'll hold my hands up and say that I made a big mistake there dropping Samson. Catches win matches, don't they? Unfortunately, it just didn't stay in my hands… Obviously, it's in the back of your mind. I kept on looking at the scoreboard, and he was piling the runs on. I was like, 'I'm going to have to get 89 tonight.'”
Axar was not done there. The Indian all-rounder again showed incredible fielding skills later when Will Jacks looked dangerous during a strong partnership with the centurion Jacob Bethell. The Indian all-rounder sprinted across the boundary and helped complete a brilliant relay catch with Dube.
