Sanju Samson gets huge role as Ruturaj Gaikwad confirms CSK openers for IPL 2026

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have shocked fans with a bold change in their batting strategy for the upcoming Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026), and it is related to the much-talked-about signing of Sanju Samson, who was traded from Rajasthan Royals (RR).

The CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has dropped a massive hint about the team's opening combination for the upcoming season after their top order’s failure ended their 2025 season at the bottom of the table. The franchise has not been able to break into the playoffs in the last two seasons.

CSK banking on Sanju Samson-Ruturaj Gaikwad combo

Over the last few years, Sanju Samson has proven that he is at his best when he opens the innings. Ever since he was promoted to the top, the right-handed batter has delivered three brilliant centuries for India and even looked unstoppable during the recent T20 World Cup.

He had played a key role in the Men in Blue’s historic title triumph. After witnessing his current form and confidence, CSK is now aiming to make the most of his talent at the top. Sanju Samson’s natural aggression makes him the perfect partner for Gaikwad, who brings calmness and control.

As the opening partner, they offer the perfect mix. Gaikwad’s own record as an opener makes this move even more convincing. He has been far more consistent when opening, with 2289 runs at a strike rate of 136.90 in 60 innings. Notably, CSK will kick off its IPL 2026 campaign against the Rajasthan Royals on March 30 at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati.

CSK shares double, but undervalued in IPL market

Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals have already been sold for over ₹16,600 crore and ₹15,300 crore, respectively. In the middle of these record-breaking deals, Chennai Super Kings has turned the heads with its rise.

In the pre-IPO market, CSK’s unlisted shares have almost doubled in one year, rising from around ₹165 to nearly ₹320. Even with this big jump, the franchise’s total value is still being seen at about ₹11,500–12,000 crore, which is much lower than the RCB and RR.

This has surprised many people because CSK has one of the strongest fan bases, a massive brand, and a long history of success. Many experts feel that if any franchise deserves a higher valuation, it’s CSK. Looking at their popularity and legacy, their real worth could be closer to ₹18,000 crore.
