Rajasthan Royals have been hit with a major setback amidst their struggles, as their captain, Sanju Samson, is all set to miss their crucial IPL 2025 clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 24 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Sanju Samson suffered the fresh injury during the Rajasthan Royals’ previous IPL 2025 clash against the Delhi Capitals. The Indian wicketkeeper had been feeling some pain in his abdominal area during the match. While batting at 31 runs off 19 balls, Samson was forced to retire hurt due to the injury. He underwent scans after the match to assess the extent of the injury.
Sanju Samson to stay back in Jaipur, ruled out of RCB clash
Later, this injury forced Samson to sit out of RR’s most recent IPL 2025 clash against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), as he has not achieved the match fitness. In Sanju’s absence, Riyan Parag led the franchise, and they again suffered a narrow defeat in the 36th IPL 2025 clash against the LSG.

Amid their losing streak in the ongoing IPL 2025, Rajasthan Royals have confirmed that Samson is currently recovering from the abdominal injury, and he will miss their next clash against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as well.
The RR stated that Sanju will stay at the team’s home base in Jaipur instead of traveling with the squad to Bangaluru for their next IPL 2025 clash with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
Injured Sanju Samson will not be traveling to Bangalore
It is being said that a group of selected RR medical staff is working closely with Samson as the captain continues his rehab. The team management has decided to monitor his condition carefully and will decide on his availability for future matches depending on how he progresses.
As reported by a Times of India journalist, Rajasthan Royals said in a statement, “Sanju Samson is currently undergoing recovery and will remain at the team’s home base with selected RR medical staff. As part of his ongoing rehab process, he will not be traveling to Bangalore for the upcoming match against RCB. The team management is monitoring his progress closely and will take a game-by-game approach regarding his return to action.”

Riyan Parag continue to lead RR in the IPL 2025 in Sanju Samson's absence
In the ongoing IPL 2025 season, Samson has been in good form with the bat, scoring 224 runs in seven matches at an average of 37.33 and a strike rate of over 140, including one half-century. At the start of the season, Samson couldn’t take up wicketkeeping duties in RR’s first three games.
Actually, the Kerala star was awaiting clearance from the NCA to play a wicketkeeper-batter as he was recovering from the surgery on his right index finger. During that time, Riyan Parag led the side, and he will continue to do so until Samson comes back.
Presently, Rajasthan Royals are sitting in 8th place in the IPL 2025 points table with only four points from eight games so far in the tournament. They have now suffered four back-to-back defeats, which severely dented their IPL 2025 playoff hopes.
