General Education and Labour Minister V Sivankutty confirmed on Monday that the state will host a grand reception in the capital city to honor his tremendous international achievements.

While the exact date of the grand event remains unannounced by the officials, the minister stated that Samson has brought immense pride to the people of Kerala. His remarkable turnaround on the global stage has captured the hearts of millions, and his homecoming will be celebrated.

Sanju Samson’s Challenging Journey To Player of the Tournament

Samson’s journey to becoming the Player of the Tournament was challenging. After a poor bilateral series against New Zealand earlier this year, he was sidelined from the playing XI. He had not played a single World Cup match before this edition, despite being part of the 2024 winning squad.

Before the Super Eight, the batter only played a single group-stage match. Samson delivered a quick-fire 22-run cameo off just eight balls against Namibia when Abhishek Sharma suffered a stomach infection. He showcased a glimpse of his fearless and aggressive intent.

During the Super Eight stage, after India suffered a 76-run defeat to South Africa, Samson returned to the side under immense pressure and played a crucial role in turning the campaign around. He smashed a stunning unbeaten 97 against the West Indies to anchor a 196-run chase.

Out Of Words, Going Through Emotions - Sanju Samson

The aggressive opening batter smashed a blistering 89 runs against England in the crucial semi-final. He then smashed another 89 off 46 balls against New Zealand in the final. The batter laid the perfect foundation for India’s record-breaking total of 255 runs.

Speaking about his comeback after securing the prestigious trophy, Samson shared his point of view on the surreal championship experience with the broadcast presenters.

“It feels like a dream. Very happy, very grateful. Out of words, going through emotions. Feels a bit surreal.”

Samson will be next seen in action during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The right-handed batter will play for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for the first time. He was traded from inaugural champions Rajasthan Royals (RR) ahead of the mini auction.
