Sarfaraz Ahmed blasts Pakistan players over individual show following his teams humiliating whitewash against Bangladesh

Sarfaraz Ahmed, the Pakistan red-ball head coach, was infuriated over his players' selfish performance in the clash between Bangladesh and Pakistan, where Pakistan faced another 2-0 whitewash against the underdogs.

Pakistan faced a 2-0 defeat for the second time in the longest format of the game. This was a second clean sweep for them against Bangladesh, following their defeat at home two years back in 2024.

With three losses in this WTC cycle, they have slipped to the eighth position in the points table. They have very little chance to qualify for the final despite their upcoming series, which is likely to be played against the West Indies and England.

Sarfaraz Ahmed is infuriated with Pakistan players after the second whitewash against Bangladesh.

After Pakistan's massive defeat to Bangladesh following their 2-0 whitewash, the Pakistan head coach, Sarfaraz Ahmed, was fuming with anger during a team meeting after the defeat in Sylhet.

"After the 58-run defeat in the second Test, head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed blasted the players for their individual game and scoring runs for themselves, and that happened before a full squad meeting with manager Naveed Cheema and other staff present," sources told Telecom Asia Sport on Saturday.

"Players should play for the team and not for themselves," Sarfaraz was quoted as saying to his players, especially to the batters.

Lack of runs, lack of pace, and wrong calls: Every detail from Pakistan's 2-0 defeat vs Bangladesh

None of the Pakistan batters has managed to score even 200 runs across the four innings of the series. It was debutant Azan Awais who was the only batter to have scored a century for Pakistan in the series, while Babar Azam featured in only one game.

The skipper had also blamed the pacers for his lack of pace-bowling ability, as he blamed them for their lack of speed, which failed to challenge the Bangladesh batters. The Pakistan skipper even made some poor calls as he did not review Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das when they gloved the ball, and they, in turn, went on to score massive hundreds for Bangladesh in the second Test.

"It is noted that players were playing for themselves. It is good to give individual performance, but it should help the team and not the individual," the head coach told the players. "The senior players have failed to take responsibility. Look at other teams and their progress while our team is going backwards," he said.

Sarfaraz Ahmed to continue, Shan Masood to be snubbed ahead of WI Tests: Reports

Sarfaraz Ahmed, the former Pakistan captain who once led the national team to an ICC title back in the 2017 Champions Trophy, has now been appointed the national head coach for the red-ball side. He was appointed to the role in April 2026 and led Pakistan in the away tour of Pakistan.

Sarfaraz is likely to continue as the head coach for the upcoming Test series in July. They will tour the nations of the West Indies and will then move to England for another Test series. Hence, he might be seen reprising his role.

Shan Masood can be removed as the captain of the Pakistan national side, as under his leadership, the Pakistan team has suffered 12 defeats in 16 Tests. Salman Ali Agha is likely to step in as the new captain.
