The 28-year-old Mumbai batsman Sarfaraz Khan managed to get a deal at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 mini auction on Tuesday, December 16.
Sarfaraz Khan has been in a red-hot form for quite a while and he was bought by the Chennai Super Kings for INR 75 lakh at the Indian Premier League 2026 mini auction at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.
Sarfaraz Khan shining in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy
The Mumbai batter Sarfaraz is one of the best batters in the Indian domestic circuit and he has been performing well across all three formats of the game.
In the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025, the right-handed batter has smashed 329 runs at an average of 82.25 and a strike rate of 204.34, with a century to his name.
Sarfaraz made his debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2015 and has played for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Punjab Kings, and Delhi Capitals, with his last outing coming in IPL 2023. However, he faced ruthless snubs in the last two IPL auctions in 2024 and 2025 as no team showed interest in acquiring his services
Suresh Raina hails Sarfaraz Khan
Speaking on Star Sports ahead of the IPL 2026 Auction, CSK legend Suresh Raina lavished rich praise on Sarfaraz Khan. He said that Sarfaraz Khan is a technically sound batter and he would perform well on the tricky batting conditions at the Chepauk, which makes him a must-have for the 5-time IPL Champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
"The form Sarfaraz is in, even if he plays four or six matches and wins you two games, it will be fully justified. Chennai’s wicket is technically sound, and if he gets set in a system like CSK, where the focus is on winning games, I think CSK will benefit greatly from his form," he said, as quoted by India Today.
"I think he is in great form. We saw earlier that when Venkatesh Iyer was bought for a big amount, the form wasn’t quite there. Sarfaraz, on the other hand, is batting really well right now. You don’t get that kind of player easily—the range of shots he plays, the confidence he has."
