The 27-year-old India National Cricket Team middle-order batsman Sarfaraz Khan has suffered a major blow ahead of the home Test series against the West Indies National Cricket Team.
Mumbai batsman Sarfaraz Khan has been hit by an injury at the worst possible time and has been ruled out of action for a significant period of time, as per a report in TOI.
Sarfaraz Khan ruled out of Duleep Trophy
The Mumbai batsman Sarfaraz made it to the Indian Test team on the back of some unbelievable performances in domestic cricket.
He carried his good form to international cricket and played some impactful knocks for India before being dropped. Despite not-so-bad performances, he was snubbed for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
The batsman has not allowed the non-selection to affect him, and he has consistently performed well in domestic cricket and for India A.
He underwent an incredible transformation, losing 17kgs in 2 months, and featured Kanga League and the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament. The 27-year-old smashed back-to-back centuries in the Buchi Babu Invitational against TNCA XI and Haryana to send a message to selectors.
He would have been hoping for a Test comeback for the home season, starting with a series against West Indies in October, but has suffered an untimely injury that has ruled him out of the Duleep Trophy.
Shivalik Sharma to replace Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel also ruled out
Sarfaraz was set to play for the defending champions, West Zone, in their semifinal clash against Central Zone from September 4 at the BCCI's CoE in Bengaluru, but a quadriceps injury has ruled him out for three weeks.
"Sarfaraz is suffering from a quadriceps injury, which he picked up while scoring a century against Haryana in the Buchi Babu event five days ago. He's set to be out for almost three weeks and is currently rehabilitating at the CoE," a source told TOI.
Shivalik Sharma is likely to replace Sarfaraz Khan in the squad as he was named as one of the reserves. Meanwhile, the Central Zone skipper, Dhruv Jurel, who missed the match against North East due to a groin injury, has also been ruled out of the semi-final against West Zone.
He has been replaced by Upendra Yadav in the squad, and Yash Thakur has also joined the side as a replacement for Kuldeep Yadav, who is set to travel to the UAE for the Asia Cup 2025.
I have shed 30 kilos - Sarfaraz Khan's father
Recently, Sarfaraz Khan's father, Naushad Khan, while speaking to RevSportz, said that he has also lost weight alongside his son. He elaborated:
“I have shed 30 kilos. I was 122 kg earlier, now I’m 92. All of us, Sarfaraz, Musheer, and I, have benefited from following a strict dietary schedule.”
“He just followed the schedule given to him by the NCA (Centre of Excellence) as far as his fitness was concerned. It was important to bring on that discipline in food habits.”
