Sarfaraz Khan's international career has seemingly ended just after it began, as the latest report hints at the same. Sarfaraz Khan had made his Test debut in 2024 against England and went on to play six matches for the India National Cricket Team last year.
However, following his poor performance during India’s 0-3 drubbing at the hands of New Zealand at home, there are very slim chances of the 27-year-old making a comeback to the national fold. He was already overlooked for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia last year.

Now, it looks like Sarfaraz’s hopes of making it to India's Test squad for the upcoming much-awaited Test tour of England are about to be dashed. Sources reveal that Indian selectors are not in favor of picking the talented batter for the crucial Test series in England.

Actually, Sarfaraz was one of the travelling reserves on the Australia tour, where his alleged dressing room leak might have gone against him. During the BGT 2024-25, the Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir allegedly claimed that Sarfaraz leaked the dressing room talks to the media.
Dressing room leak controversy puts Sarfaraz Khan's career in danger
It was already certain that Gambhir’s discontent on Sarfaraz’s breach would impact his career, and now the report of him being out of the national contention seems to be the reaction to whatever he did on the Australia tour. During that series, the news of the strained atmosphere was ruling the headlines.
Well, the Mumbai batter made his India debut in the third Test against England and scored 62 runs and an unbeaten 68 runs. However, the right-handed batter could not make any impact in his second Test, scoring only 14 runs, but made a strong comeback in the next Test, hitting a fifty in the fifth Test.
The Indian middle-order batter then started the home Test series against New Zealand on a high note, hammering a record-breaking 150 in the second innings in Bengaluru. But then, Sarfaraz’s slump began, as he could manage only 11, 9, 0, and 1 in the last two Tests, as New Zealand registered a historic 3-0 series win in India.

Will BCCI offer central contract to Sarfaraz Khan?
After which, the Mumbai star lost his place in India’s Test side, and now he is highly unlikely to be picked for the England tour. It will also be interesting to see whether Sarfaraz would get the central contract for the 2024-25 season since he was not also picked by any franchise for the IPL 2025. The ongoing season in the straight second when he was overlooked by the teams.
However, some reports suggested that Sarfaraz is likely to get the BCCI central contract that is likely to be released next month. According to the BCCI’s contract rules, a player needs to play at least three Tests, eight ODIs, or 10 T20Is in a year to qualify for the annual contract.
This means players like Bengal pacer Akash Deep (who has played seven Tests) and Sarfaraz Khan (who has played three Tests) are likely to be considered for a Grade C contract worth Rs 1 crore.
