Pakistan suffered a disappointing 2-0 whitewash against the Bangladesh
To worsen the case more for them, Pakistan then suffered a disappointing 2-0 whitewash against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team at home. This saw the team getting criticized by almost everyone, and even skipper Shan Masood wasn't spared, as there were calls to remove him from the post.
The upcoming Test series against England will be a massive opportunity for the Shan Masood-led side to win the trust of the fans again and beat the opposition to silence all their critics. All the players including skipper, vice-captain Saud Shakeel, Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and pacers need to get together.
I am hopeful we will deliver, as we've put in the hard work - Saud Shakeel
Pakistan vice-captain Saud Shakeel is confident that they will be coming up with positive results in the upcoming Test series against England. He feels that with players getting a lot of backing from management, their responsibility increases and they will have to deliver now. Speaking to reporters, he explained:
“When we lose, many issues arise. However, if we look at the overall morale of the team, with the backing we have received from the coach and captain, I believe we have even more responsibilities to deliver. There isn’t any grouping within the team, and the environment is quite good. The important thing is that now is the right time to deliver.”
Saud Shakeel further talked about the concerns of the team, saying that they need to convert big starts into larger scores. He also mentioned that they will be playing cricket according to their requirements. He added:
“We are sometimes struggling a bit, but we might not have converted those big starts into larger scores. That is a small concern. We have always said that we won't play cricket by following anyone else; we will play according to our requirements.”
Last Test series we played against England, we were very close to winning those matches but couldn’t finish them - Saud Shakeel
Saud Shakeel admitted that although England won the Test series last time, they were close to winning but they couldn't finish the matches well. He believes that playing against Ben Stokes-led side gives them opportunities to stay in the match.
Shakeel also stressed that England doesn't have experienced bowling and they will try to keep things simple and capitalize on any opportunities. He added:
"Yes, absolutely. If you look at the last Test series we played against England, we were very close to winning those matches but couldn’t finish them. England's style of cricket gives you many opportunities to stay in the match, so we need to take advantage of that to finish the match and win the series.
"They don’t have a particularly experienced bowling unit either; they play through a certain plan. So, we haven’t thought too much about it. We will try to keep things simple and capitalize on any opportunities that come our way," he concluded.
