Pakistan has sacked more than 100 police officers for not performing their respective duties properly during the ongoing Champions Trophy. It is a big decision from the country's security set-up for such an important tournament.

The dismissed security men were associated with the different wings of the police and were dismissed for their negligence during their duties in the tournament. These policemen were asked to provide security for teams travelling between Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium and their respective hotels.

Pakistan dismiss more than 100 policemen for negligence

According to Punjab Police, more than 100 policemen and the officers have been sacked from their respective jobs after they were found absent from duty or had refused to perform their tasks during the tournament.

"The police officials were assigned to provide security for teams travelling between Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore and designated hotels but either remained absent or outright refused to take up their responsibilities," the official was quoted as saying by NDTV.

The official said IGP Punjab Usman Anwar has taken notice of the matter and ordered strict action against the cops in question. "There is no room for negligence when it comes to the security of international events," he added.

There is no official update regarding the sacking of these police officers but local reports claim that the security officials were working for extra hours and feeling overburdened due to it.

The Champions Trophy 2025 is the first ICC tournament hosted by Pakistan in 29 years. The tournament holds a huge significance for the country that has been poorly affected by terrorism over the last few years.

Champions Trophy in safe hands - Federal minister

The Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, National Heritage and Culture, Attaullah Tarar dismissed any claims of a threat in the ongoing Champions Trophy. He believes that the country will continue to host the tournament peacefully is they are doing currently.

“I would like to state on record that Pakistan is peacefully and very ably hosting the ICC Champions Trophy. Our grounds are full, we have fans from all over the world, the crowds are jubilant, and our streets are filled with people who are celebrating the victory of cricket.” Attaullah was quoted as saying by Geo News.

Pakistan were deprived of international cricket for almost a decade as the terrorists had attacked a bus consisting of the Sri Lankan players in Lahore. Since then, a no. of cricketing events were cancelled in the country and they had to play its home games in UAE.

Pakistan's poor performance in Champions Trophy

The Men in Green were knocked out of the Champions Trophy 2025 after losing their first two games to New Zealand and India respectively. The Men in Green struggled to gain any momentum and were unable to stand up to the expectations of their home crowd.

They lost the first match to New Zealand by 60 runs and then lost to India by 6 wickets with 7.3 overs to spare. The defending champions have been heavily criticised for their performance by the country's former cricketers and experts.
