The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) clarified that left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir is making a comeback to the national cricket team in the upcoming series. The board said that reports that were surfing the internet for the past few days were “factually incorrect”.
Earlier, the reports suggested that Amir, who played his last international cricket for Pakistan in 2020, was expected to come out of retirement in the near future. According to rumours, the Pakistan team’s selection committee contacted Amir’s manager and asked him not to make unnecessary media statements.

In a statement, the PCB said the selection criteria policy is “crystal clear: domestic performance”. The statement added that the selection committee always considers domestic performance while selecting the national team and that there is no intention to bring Amir back to the squad as he retired from international cricket.
Earlier in a media interaction, Najam Sethi said about Mohammad Amir’s comeback, saying that he can play international cricket for Pakistan if he takes his retirement back.
“Mohammad Amir can play international cricket for Pakistan if he takes his retirement back. I always took a strong stance against match-fixing. I believe no convicted player should be spared, but at the same time, a player should be allowed to resume international cricket once he has completed his years of penalty,” said Sethi.

“I don’t want to play international cricket anymore. I was always available for white-ball cricket, but I have had shabby treatment from the team management, who have mentally tortured me, and that’s unacceptable,” Amir, who has previously been banned for match-fixing, told AFP.
Mohammad Amir has represented Pakistan in 36 Tests, 61 ODIs, and 50 T20Is. He last played for the Men in Green in a T20I against England in 2020. The left-arm pacer bowled a brilliant spell in the 2017 Champions Trophy. The pacer was also part of the Pakistan team when they won the ICC T20 World Cup in 2009 and the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017.
