Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan opened up about the controversy over cricketers texting female actors or TikTokers, adding that these interactions are often exaggerated. Shadab Khan also stated that some actors might seek publicity, adding that the reality is often different from what's portrayed.
Last year, a Pakistan TikToker, Shahtaj Khan, claimed that Shadab Khan had been communicating with her on WhatsApp and Instagram, and she had proposed marriage to him. However, Shadab has been married to Malaika, the daughter of legendary Pakistan cricketer Saqlain Mushtaq, for over two years.
There's Nothing Wrong with It - Shadab Khan
During his appearance on the show Hansna Mana Hai, Shadab Khan stated that there is nothing wrong with a cricketer messaging an actress or TikToker. Shadab mentioned that the messages will stop if the recipient doesn't like them. He also said that some actresses may exaggerate their claims for attention.
Host Tabish Hashmi asked the all-rounder, "Do cricketers really send messages to actors and TikTokers on social media, or are these just baseless claims?"
"If a cricketer messages an actress or TikToker, there's nothing wrong with it. If actresses receive messages and don't like them, they should simply not respond," Shadab replied.
"If actresses don't reply, they won't get more messages. But if they respond and then expect replies while complaining about getting messages, that's not how it works," he added.
"I've seen videos of some actresses making big claims, but that's not always the reality. Sometimes, things are exaggerated," he further remarked.
It's a Way to Get Attention - Shadab Khan
Shadab Khan responded to allegations without naming anyone specifically. He stated that such claims are often made for publicity, especially during major cricket events. He added that there is no conflict within the team regarding who messaged an actress, and everyone does ask each other.
"It's a way to get attention. There's no fight within the team over who messaged an actress. But yes, everyone does ask each other who sent the message," Shadab added.
Shadab Khan Accused of Blackmail by Dubai-Based Woman
In 2020, Dubai-based woman Ashreena Safia accused Shadab of blackmailing her. She claimed that the cricketer had threatened to leak her nude pictures if she revealed details about their relationship. Safia expressed that she had been deceived by the cricketer's lies and had unknowingly enabled his behavior.
“Yes, I see all the messages you guys send and it is very hard for me to accept but here we are. This is personal/vulnerable for me to share but I have a platform Alhamdulillah to do right. I’m sorry to all the girls who reached out for help when they were used and taken advantage of by the person I was with. Astaghfirullah that I believed his lies and unconsciously enabled his behavior,” Safia wrote in her Instagram post.
“I have zero to gain from posting this but if I can help one girl become aware then I’m willing to jeopardize myself. I’ve been dealing with this since I moved to Dubai. Shadab is probably the first guy I’ve cared about so deeply and it’s hard to process this still. I can’t address anything further for legal reasons so please respect my privacy,” she added.
