Pakistan Cricket Team’s star speedster Shaheen Afridi shared his thoughts on the thrilling final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 played between India and South Africa in Barbados on June 29.

Hailing India’s historic win, Afridi stressed the importance of handling pressure in high-stakes encounters. Afridi acknowledged that both the South African cricket team and the Indian cricket team performed exceptionally well in the T20 World Cup 2024 final, and their competitive spirit and skill were top-notch.

However, highlighting how crucial moments and pressure management determine the outcomes of such high-stakes matches, Afridi said that Team India was a better team in terms of handling the pressure and won the summit clash.

The Men in Blue defeated the Proteas team by seven runs in the nail-biting final over to clinch their second T20 World Cup after 17 years in Barbados. It was India’s first ICC title in the last 11 years, and Afridi said that Rohit Sharma and his team deserved every bit of this historic triumph.

The Pakistan pacer said that he watched the T20 World Cup 2024 final between India and South Africa, and both teams gave a really tough fight to each other for the coveted title, but in the end, the Men in Blue brilliantly handled the pressure and won their first trophy since the 2013 Champions Trophy.

Afridi also mentioned that the Indian cricket team played a dominating brand of cricket throughout the tournament, and they deserved to be crowned the 2024 T20 World Cup champions.

India deserved to win the T20 World Cup 2024: Shaheen Afridi

As reported by Sports Tak, Shaheen Afridi told reporters in London: “I watched the match and enjoyed it, and both teams played well. On the day, whichever team handles the pressure wins. India played a good brand of cricket and deserved to win.”

Notably, India achieved a rare feat by becoming the first team in men's T20 World Cup history to win the trophy without losing a single match. They won all eight matches they played in the T20 World Cup 2024, but one group-stage encounter against Canada was abandoned without even a toss taking place in Florida due to heavy rain.

Meanwhile, India celebrated their second T20 World Cup title, whereas the Pakistan cricket team made an early exit from the tournament after their losses to co-hosts USA and Team India in Group A games.

We need to correct a few things: Shaheen Afridi on Pakistan's poor campaign

Acknowledging the setback, Afridi said that Pakistan needs to undergo strategic adjustments ahead of future tournaments, saying every team does that for strong performances on the global stage.

Afridi signed off by saying, “Strong teams compete in the World Cup and they come after going through a process. I think we need to correct few things and if we work hard, results will be with us.”

Notably, the Men in Green’s next assignment is in November, when they will travel to Australia for the white-ball series, comprising three ODIs and as many as T20Is.
