Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Afridi lost his cool during the captains’ press conference ahead of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026. Shaheen Afridi will be leading the Lahore Qalandars in PSL 2026.

Shaheen is the first captain to win three PSL titles, having led Lahore Qalandars to back-to-back championships in 2022 and 2023 and then another winning triumph in 2025. Now, he will be aiming for the fourth title, and he already fired up the fireworks with his attitude in the press conference.

Shaheen Afridi loses cool at media for questioning about Pakistan's struggle

During the PSL 2026 captains’ presser on March 25 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, a journalist asked Shadab Khan about the rumors of him taking over the T20I captaincy. Babar Azam was then questioned about his strike rate and his place in Pakistan’s T20I team, followed by Shaheen Afridi being asked about his potential role as captain.

These questions left Shaheen Afridi frustrated, as the pacer has made it clear that he did not want to discuss the Pakistan national cricket team and strongly reminded the media that all questions should only focus on the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and not on the national side.

Afridi was heard saying in the viral clip from the presser: “Don’t ask about Pakistan. We are currently playing the Pakistan Super League (PSL), so ask questions on PSL only. When we will be playing for Pakistan, then you can ask questions about Pakistan, and we will answer those questions.”

The clip went viral quickly, as Pakistani cricket has been under heavy scrutiny after a series of disappointing results. The Men in Green failed to reach the semi-finals in four consecutive ICC events. In the 2026 T20 World Cup, they were eliminated at the Super 8 stage despite a win over Sri Lanka because their net run rate was too low compared to New Zealand and England.

David Warner schools Afridi, Rizwan and Labuschagne for whispering at press conference

Well, the drama didn’t end there, as the former Australian opener David Warner, who is captaining the Karachi Kings, schooled Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan, and Marnus Labuschagne for their unprofessional behavior at the captains’ press conference in Lahore.

Actually, Shaheen, Rizwan, and Labuschagne were spotted whispering and laughing among themselves while Warner was speaking. The chatter left Warner annoyed, and his irritation was clear.

Warner jokingly called them out for their distraction by saying, "What's wrong, gentlemen? Sorry we’ve got some school kids here.” This clip went viral on social media.

PSL 2026 to be held behind closed doors

On the other hand, the PSL 2026 will take place behind closed doors due to security concerns.

The PCB chairman said, "The PSL is our international brand, and with foreign players involved, we had to consider our credibility as well. Postponing the tournament was not a viable option, especially since there is no available window later in the year. That is why, after consultations, it was decided that the PSL will begin on March 26.”

He added, “I would like to apologize to the people of Peshawar. We had promised matches there, but unfortunately, due to the circumstances, we are unable to fulfill that. We will make sure they are accommodated in some form in the future.”
