Veteran Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was punished by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for his aggression on the field during the first Test against Pakistan. The ICC fined Shakib Al Hasan 10 percent of his match fee and sanctioned a demerit point for breaching the Code of Conduct.

Shakib Al Hasan played a crucial role in Bangladesh's victory over Pakistan during the series opener at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. The left-arm spinner picked up three wickets for 44 runs in Pakistan's second innings. The home team was bowled out for 146 runs on the final day of the match.

Bangladesh chased down the 30-run target to secure victory in the first Test match. It is worth mentioning that it was their first-ever Test victory over the Pakistan team. Veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim was named 'Player of the Match' for his impressive century during Bangladesh's first innings.

The Pakistan cricket team was penalized six World Test Championship points for falling six overs short of the required rate during the recent Test match. Meanwhile, the Bangladesh team, which won the match by 10 wickets, lost three points for being three overs short of the acceptable rate.

Shakib Al Hasan Punished By ICC For Throwing Ball At Mohammad Rizwan

Shakib Al Hasan was found guilty of breaching the ICC Code of Conduct for throwing the ball at Mohammad Rizwan on Day 5 of the Test. The ICC penalized Shakib under Article 2.9, which relates to throwing objects at players or officials inappropriately or dangerously.

"Shakib was penalised in accordance with Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match," the ICC said in a statement on Monday, August 26.

Shakib was also given a demerit point for his breach of conduct. He will face a suspension from at least one international match if he accumulates four demerit points within 24 months. This is Shakib's first demerit point in recent years, with his last ICC sanction dating back to December 2018.

The incident happened during the 33rd over of Pakistan's second innings on the fifth day of the Test.

Shakib Al Hasan threw the ball over Mohammad Rizwan's head in frustration. The left-arm spinner was set to bowl, but the Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter was not ready to face the delivery.

The 37-year-old cricketer has also been in the spotlight for negative reasons recently. Shakib was named in an alleged murder case amid political unrest in Bangladesh.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has received a legal notice regarding his suspension from international cricket.
