Veteran Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is not likely to return home after the ongoing two-match Test series against Pakistan.
Shakib Al Hasan is set to play one County Championship game before the multi-format series against Team India, which is scheduled to commence on September 19.
Hasan is currently facing charges related to an alleged murder during protests in Bangladesh in early August.
The former member of parliament was named in an FIR along with 146 other people in the murder case. Shakib was in the Global T20 Canada at the time of the protests in the country.
The 37-year-old cricketer didn't return home after his stint in the Global T20 Canada. Shakib joined the rest of the Bangladesh Test squad in Pakistan.
He was a part of Bangladesh's 10-wicket victory against Pakistan in the first Test. Shakib took three wickets in Pakistan's second innings of the match.
Shakib Al Hasan Set To Play For Surrey In County Championship Match
According to ESPNCricinfo, Shakib Al Hasan is expected to travel to the United Kingdom next month.
The left-handed batter will play a County Championship match for Surrey, as the club has been working on the deal. Shakib will join the national team before the upcoming tour of India.
Shakib will play the County Championship game against Somerset in Taunton from September 9.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has reportedly issued him a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for this match. Surrey will be missing their England players due to their international commitments.
After playing the county match, the former Bangladesh skipper will travel from London to Chennai before the first Test match against India, which is set to begin on September 19. Bangladesh will play two Tests and three T20Is against India before their home series against South Africa in October.
I Hope Shakib Al Hasan Will Not Be Arrested Bangladesh Minister
The report added that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has the authority to withhold Shakib Al Hasan's registration in their domestic cricket system even if he secures a UK visa.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh's Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs adviser, Asif Nazrul, said that it is unlikely Shakib will be arrested. Nazrul mentioned that the Ministry of Home Affairs will manage the situation to prevent any premature actions.
"This is a matter for the police administration. We have tried to say as much as we can. Filing a case does not mean an arrest," Nazrul told reporters in Dhaka.
"I believe our Ministry of Home Affairs will take steps to ensure that no one becomes overly enthusiastic about making an arrest. I hope Shakib will not be arrested. As far as I know, our police force has been given certain instructions."
"At this moment there is no bar on Shakib to continue playing. We have responded to the legal notice served to us and we have said the same thing (no bar on Shakib playing in the UK) there too," new BCB chief Faruque Ahmed told the Dhaka-based Daily Star on Tuesday.
