West Indies white-ball coach Darren Sammy feels that Shamar Joseph will be an all-format player in the future. Daren Sammy also said that Shamar Joseph has created a headache for WI selectors for the T20 World Cup squad after his marvelous bowling show against Australia.
Last week, Shamar Joseph grabbed a lot of limelight for leading West Indies to a Test victory in Australia. The right-arm seamer hunted 7 wickets for 68 runs in the 2nd innings of the 2nd Test in Brisbane to propel West Indies to an 8-run victory over Australia in the match.
Joseph demolished Australia’s entire batting unit as they failed to chase down 216 runs in the final innings. Notably, West Indies grabbed a Test victory in Australia after 27 years and scripted history books. They last won a Test match in Australia in 1997.

Shamar Joseph is an all-format player: Daren Sammy
West Indies ODI and T20I coach Daren Sammy heaped praises on Shamar Joseph during a chat with ESPNCricinfo. He feels that Joseph is an all-format player and wants him in the limited-over squad.
“He will definitely be an all-format player. I can’t wait to get my hands on him in this squad. But look, everything has a process to it. That’s the way myself and the chairman of selectors operate. What he’s done, he’s created a really good headache for me with the World Cup coming up, building forward in the ODI team”, Sammy said.
Since the Caribbean pacer Shamar Joseph faced a toe injury in the 2nd Test, he returned home after the Australia vs West Indies Test series. The 24-year-old seamer will be absent from the upcoming three-match ODI and T20I series against Australia. He has been signed up by Peshawar Zalmi as a replacement player in PSL 2024 (Pakistan Super League 2024).

Let him go home and rest: Daren Sammy
Daren Sammy also feels that Joseph should be allowed to rest and go home as he has faced an injury. He also noted that it was the first time he spent so much time away from his family.
“We ride the wave that’s happening there, but we won’t go crazy. If the guy’s injured, let him go home and rest. That’s probably the first time he’s been away from home for so long. He’s got a young family. So we understand. Whatever we do is well-planned and well thought out”, Darren Sammy further added.
AUS vs WI ODI series commences on Feb 2
Shamar Joseph also rocked in the 1st Test against Australia in Adelaide, picking a 5-wicket haul. He later helped the team crush the Aussies at The Gabba in 2nd Test to script history. The AUS vs WI Test series ended in a 1-1 tie. Australia won 1st Test by 10 wickets.
Meanwhile, Australia and West Indies are set to clash with each other in an ODI series. The opening clash of the three-match series takes place on Friday, February 2 at Melbourne Cricket Stadium in Australia. After the ODI series, Australia and West Indies will clash in 3 T20I games.
