Former cricketer Basit Ali has slammed Pakistan's Test captain Shan Masood for talking about Yorkshire in a press conference before the Test series against Bangladesh. Basit was clearly unhappy with Masood speaking about his Yorkshire experience before an international series.

Shan Masood is currently the captain of the English County Club 'Yorkshire'. The prolific left-hander has been associated with the club since 2023. In his first season for Yorkshire, Masood was brilliant as he scored 720 runs in seven matches. His impressive performances for the club resulted in him being the skipper of Yorkshire.

Basit Ali reminds Shan Masood of his responsibility as Pakistan's captain

In a video uploaded on his YouTube channel, Ali spoke about Shan Masood's recent press conference before Pakistan's home Test series against Bangladesh. Basit slammed Shan Masood for talking about his Yorkshire experience and reminded him that he is Pakistan's captain and not Yorkshire's captain right now.

"He gave an example of Yorkshire in his press conference. He spoke about how rain is a factor there, and Joe Root and Harry Brook are also part of that team. I just want to say two things to Shan Masood. You are the captain of Pakistan, not Yorkshire," Basit Ali said.

"Do not give their example" - Basit Ali

The former Pakistan batter advised Masood to not give Yorkshire's examples like Joe Root and Harry Brook and instead talk about Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Afridi, and other Pakistan cricketers.

"Do not give their example; give examples of players of your country. Speak about how you have players like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Abdullah Shafique, Saud Shakeel, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Shaheen Afridi, and Naseem Shah. Give your example. Don't give the example of the Kookaburra ball because there is a big difference in our pitches and their (England's) pitches," Basit slammed Masood.

Masood will lead Pakistan in the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh which will begin on August 21 in Rawalpindi. The second Test will start on August 30 in Karachi.

"Stop playing at No. 3" - Basit Ali's advice to Shan Masood

Ali also advised Masood to leave his designated No. 3 spot in Pakistan's Test team and instead open the innings. He even advocated for Masood to open in all formats for Pakistan.

"Shan Masood sahab, stop playing at No. 3. When I saw you for the first time, I gave you the advice that the bat's length should be long. Today, I am giving you the advice to stop playing at No. 3. You should open the batting in all three formats. If you come at No. 3, you will harm yourself and Pakistan," the 53-year-old said.

Shan Masood is likely to continue batting at No. 3 during the upcoming series against Bangladesh. The stylish left-hander has played 33 Tests for Pakistan and scored 1778 runs at an average of 28.67. He has four hundreds and nine fifties to his name in Test cricket.
