Although Shikhar Dhawan doesn’t play Tests or T20Is for India, he is a regular in ODI games. In the absence of Rohit Sharma, Dhawan also leads the team in ODIs. Recently, he led the Indian team to a 3-0 victory against West Indies.

Want To Be An Asset For India: Shikhar Dhawan

While speaking to PTI, the left-handed batsman said that he wants to be an asset to the team till he plays. He also mentioned that his performance is a reflection of his experience.

“Till the time I am playing for India, I would like to be an asset and not a liability. I am a calm, matured person. The performance is a reflection of my experience. My basics have been pretty strong and I have put in a lot of work to improve my technique. Understanding a format is also very important. I understand the dynamics of ODI format and that has helped me a lot,” Dhawan told PTI.

Dhawan also said that playing only ODIs gives him enough time to keep himself fresh and be fully fit for the games, which is the positive aspect that he focuses on.

“I never let this feeling creep into my system that “Oh God, I am playing only one format or I am playing an ODI series after a long time. Will my body respond well to the rigours of international cricket or will it not? Frankly speaking, I don’t like entertaining these thoughts. I view it like this. If I am playing a format after a gap of two months or three months, it always gives me a chance to remain fresh and come into battle fully fit, and with enough time to work on my game.” Dhawan further said.

In spite of his consistent performances in IPL seasons, he is not picked by selectors for the shortest format. Dhawan will lead the team in a forthcoming ODI series against Zimbabwe. India’s tour of Zimbabwe 2022 will witness 3 ODI games. The ODI games will take place on August 18, 20, and 22.
