Former Indian cricketer Saba Karim talked about Indian batsman Shikhar Dhawan‘s future with the Indian cricket team.

Shikhar Dhawan’s omission from India’s T20 World Cup squad was a shocking decision for the experts and his fans. When Virat Kohli-led Indian team was preparing for the Test series against England, Dhawan stood as the captain of India’s limited-overs team in Sri Lanka.

KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma preferred ahead of Shikhar Dhawan in the T20 World Cup squad

Dhawan is the overall leading scorer in IPL 2021 as he has amassed 380 runs from eight innings at the strike rate of 134.28 so far. KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma have been consistent in the shortest format for India.

Dhawan was not consistent in T20 Internationals as his average dipped to 22.50 in 2021, hence the Indian selectors went ahead with Rohit and Rahul as the first-choice openers.

Shikhar Dhawan has a lot of life left in him: Saba Karim

Saba Karim thinks that it is not the end of the road for the 35-year-old southpaw as he has more left in his career and will be a vital cog in the ODI setup for India.

“Shikhar Dhawan is an important part of India’s one-day team. His international career is not over just yet. He still has a lot of life left in him. He is fit and also is motivated,” Saba Karim told YouTube channel Khelneeti.

“In T20s, ahead of him, there were options like KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma. Virat Kohli can open, even Ishan Kishan can open. So Dhawan didn’t get a place. In the coming times, Shikhar Dhawan has to play a really important role, not just for IPL teams but for the Indian team as well,” Saba Karim added.

Dhawan will aim to help his IPL team Delhi Capitals win their maiden IPL title in the second phase of IPL 2021.
