Former Pakistan player Shoaib Akhtar feels that there is a rift in the Indian team. The former pacer also said that Virat Kohli did not leave Test captaincy because he wanted to. His comments arrive after India faced a miserable loss against South Africa in the Test and ODI series.

After taking a 1-0 lead in the Test series, India lost the next two games to finish on the losing side. Later, India also lost all the three ODI games against South Africa, facing a miserable whitewash in the three-match ODI series. Moreover, after the defeat in the Test series, Virat Kohli stepped down as Test skipper.

I See A Rift In Indian Team: Shoaib Akhtar

While speaking on his YouTube channel, Shoaib Akhtar said that he feels there is a rift in the Indian team.

“I see a rift in this team. Important to see how the team will be handled. I don’t think Kohli quit because he wanted to, such a situation was created that he had to leave captaincy. There are a lot of reasons behind Kohli’s decision to leave Test captaincy, that I cannot say because of confidentiality,” Shoaib Akhtar said.

The former right-arm speedster also added that he didn’t see a combined effort by the team in South Africa and the management needs to sort the issues of unrest in the team.

“The recent performances have left India humiliating. I don’t think the Indian team should be losing to such a South Africa team, that too in a demoralizing manner,” Moving ahead from this point, the BCCI, Management, captain and the rest of the players will have to regroup. The issues of unrest will have to be put to an end by the management. I didn’t see a combined effort by the team in South Africa,” Shoaib Akhtar further said.

With the resignation of Virat Kohli from Tests, BCCI will have to nominate a new skipper for India in Tests. BCCI is expected to announce the new Test skipper ahead of the home Test series against Sri Lanka in February.
