Shoaib Akhtar Warns The Management Of Over Using Jasprit Bumrah Considering His Back Issues

Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar notified that Jasprit Bumrah might break down completely if he is going to play games continuously in the next year or so. Shoaib Akhtar popularly called the “Rawalpindi Express” does know about bowling at high speeds and he has bowled the fastest delivery so far in international cricket with 161.3 kph delivery.

Jasprit Bumrah has been facing back issues since 2019 and it was only a matter of time till it would arrive as he had an unorthodox action that stresses a lot on the back for his pace. He has been given rest at times, but he does look like he will need rest in every alternative game to be completely fit. He did not have the best of times in the World Test Championship final as well.

Shoaib Akhtar explained that Jasprit Bumrah has a frontal action that stresses a lot on his back and shoulder speed. He mentioned that he survived injury phases because he had a side-on action and it can compensate for the amount of load exerted on the back. He added that it is tough to get back at the best after facing back issues.

“His bowling is based on frontal action. Players with that action bowl with their backs and shoulder speed. We used to be side-on, and that is a compensation. Front action has no compensation and with that action, when the back blows out, you can’t escape it irrespective of how much you try,” Shoaib Akhtar told

Shoaib Akhtar Reckons Bumrah Needs To Be Managed Well

Shoaib Akhtar mentioned few examples of world-class bowlers like Ian Bishop, and Shane Bond all had issues with the back with frontal actions. He explained that Bumrah needs to play one game and take the rehab time to be ready for a long time or he would be worn out completely in one year’s time.

“I saw (Ian) Bishop’s back blowing out, Shane Bond’s back blowing out, and both has frontal actions. Bumrah now needs to think in this way, ‘I played a match, took an off, and go to rehab’. He needs to manage. If you play him every match, in one year, he will completely break down. Play him three matches out of five and take him out. Bumrah will have to manage this one thing if he wants to last forever,” He added

Jasprit Bumrah is part of the test squad against England and all eyes will be on him if he gets to play all five tests.
