Ben Stokes led England were able to achieve a famous win against India in the first Test match played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. England defeated India by 28 runs as the hosts were not able to chase down 231 runs in the second innings. Tom Hartley was the main culprit behind India’s fall in the second innings and picked up a total of 7 wickets.
England were brought back into the match by a magnificent century by batsman Ollie Pope. Pope played an innings of 196 runs and helped England gain a first-innings lead of 230 runs. England were all out for 420 runs in their second innings and apart from Pope, no other English batsman was able to impress with his performance.
Chasing down the target, India started off well when openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal added 42 runs for the first wicket. While Jaiswal walked back after scoring 15 runs, Shubman Gill followed his footsteps and was dismissed for a duck. KL Rahul as well was not able to do much and walked back after scoring 17 runs.
In an attempt to pace the innings, Indian captain Rohit Sharma was once again not able to convert his start into a big score and was dismissed for 39 runs. Shreyas Iyer was removed by 13 runs by Jack Leach. KS Bharat and Ravichandran Ashwin tried to show some fight, but towards the end of the day, they also fell to Tom Hartley for 28 runs each. At last, Mohammed Siraj was the last Indian wicket to fall, which marked England’s 28-run win over India.
England batsman Ollie Pope also registered quite a few records to his name as he just fell short by 4 runs to become the fourth England batsman after Graeme Fowler, Mike Gatting and Joe Root slam a double hundred. He also left, Pakistani opener Saeed Anwar behind and grabbed fourth place in the list of the highest individual scores by a visiting batter against India.
Zimbabwe legend Andy Flower tops the list whereas Brendon McCullum and Sir Garfield Sobers are on the 2nd and 3rd spot.

Shocking defeat. Easily the worst that I have witnessed at home. Could easily go down as one of the worst of India's Test history at home. First time lost after a lead of 100+ runs at home, 3rd instance overall of losing after a 100 plus run lead in a Test. So much to ponder… https://t.co/3alPKHRnuu

The best stories are the ones with unexpected twists & @OPope32 scripted one for his team. When the chips were down for his team he shone through with a combination of sound shot selection, staying positive and good footwork, especially against our spinners.
