The International Cricket Council (ICC) recently began its first Annual General Meeting (AGM) under the leadership of new chairman Jay Shah in Singapore. Notably, the four-day meeting brought together key stakeholders, excluding Mohsin Naqvi, to deliberate on several major issues for the future of international cricket.

The ICC’s four-day conference has brought together delegates from more than 108 member associations. Key discussions include the introduction of a two-tier structure for Test cricket, the expansion of the T20 World Cup to include more teams, and the inclusion of new countries as ICC members.

"PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi Naqvi not attending ICC's Singapore conference. He'd also stayed away from the Champions Trophy presentation in Dubai despite being the host," Vijay Tagore wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).

India lifted the 2025 Champions Trophy after defeating New Zealand by four wickets in the final in Dubai. Pakistan were the official hosts of the event, but India’s matches, including the final, were shifted to Dubai due to their board's security-related objections. Mohsin Naqvi did not attend the title clash.

ICC To Discuss Asia Cup 2025 During Annual General Meeting - Report

According to news reports, the future of the 2025 Asia Cup could be decided on the sidelines of the ongoing ICC Annual General Meeting in Singapore, where representatives from major Asian cricket boards, including India and Pakistan, are present.

The Asia Cup is scheduled for September in the T20 format, with India set to host the tournament. However, uncertainty surrounds the event following the April terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, and India’s military response - Operation Sindoor - which targeted terror camps in Pakistan.

Speculation had emerged over India potentially withdrawing from the tournament due to the heightened tensions, but BCCI secretary Jay Shah dismissed such reports. The ongoing ICC meeting could offer more clarity on whether the Asia Cup will proceed as planned.

India and Pakistan Last Met in the 2025 Champions Trophy in Dubai

India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral cricket series for more than a decade, meeting only in ICC tournaments and Asia Cups. The last bilateral series between the two sides took place in 2012-13, when Pakistan toured India for a white-ball series.

India last travelled to Pakistan in 2005-06 for a full-fledged tour. They also refused to travel to Pakistan for multi-team events, including the 2023 Asia Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy, citing security concerns.

India played their matches at neutral venues. However, Pakistan did visit India for the 2023 ODI World Cup. The two boards recently agreed that future matches between the nations will only take place at neutral venues, whether in ICC competitions or the Asia Cup.
