The West Indies created history during the second match of the three-game series against Bangladesh at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Monday, October 21. Notably, the Roston Chase-led side became the first team to bowl 50 consecutive overs of spin in a One Day International match.
The West Indies relied solely on their spin bowlers throughout the innings. All-rounder pacer Justin Greaves was the only pace option in the lineup but was not used. The spinners performed well on another lacklustre pitch, restricting the home team to 213 for 7 in 50 overs without requiring any pace support.
West Indies Make History by Bowling Entire 50 Overs with Spinners in ODI Innings
Bangladesh scored 213 for the loss of 7 wickets in 50 overs against a spin-heavy West Indies attack in Dhaka. Opening batter Soumya Sarkar top-scored with 45, but lower-order batter Rishad Hossain dominated the closing stages with an unbeaten 39 off 14 balls, including three sixes and as many fours.
Rishad added an unbroken 50-run eighth-wicket partnership with Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who scored an unbeaten 32 runs off 58 balls with one boundary. Gudakesh Motie was the most successful for the West Indies with three wickets but conceded 65 runs.
Akeal Hosein and Alick Athanaze picked up two wickets each. Rishad’s innings helped Bangladesh post a competitive total. Meanwhile, West Indies broke the record for most overs bowled entirely by spinners in an ODI innings, surpassing Sri Lanka's 44-over record against Australia in 2004.

Bangladesh Struggle Early but Finish Strong on Cracked Dhaka Pitch
The Dhaka pitch again challenged the batters. Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first. Soumya Sarkar struck a couple of early boundaries, while Saif Hassan briefly threatened with a six before being dismissed by Akeal Hosein.
Towhid Hridoy and Najmul Hossain Shanto struggled and fell cheaply to Athanaze, leaving Bangladesh at 96 for 4 after 28 overs. Mahidul Islam attempted to accelerate but could not rotate the strike effectively and was eventually dismissed for 17.
Sarkar played 89 balls, smashing three fours and a six before departing in the 31st over. Bangladesh then collapsed to 128 for 6. Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Nurul Hasan added a 35-run stand. Nurul scored 23 off 24 balls, including two fours and one six. Bangladesh eventually posted a competitive total.
The ongoing ODI in Dhaka is crucial for the West Indies as they look to recover from their 74-run defeat to Bangladesh in the first match on October 18. A win is essential for the visitors to stay alive in the series.
