He did the exact thing that he had been doing throughout the competition and once again led the team from the front. Iyer played one of the best knocks in the history of the Indian Premier League playoffs and ensured that his team bounced back from the Qualifier 1 setback.

In Qualifier 2, while chasing 204 against the Jasprit Bumrah-led bowling attack, Iyer remained unbeaten in the middle till the end and slammed 87 runs off 41 balls, with 5 fours and 8 sixes.

The most special shot hit by Iyer during his stupendous innings was not a maximum, but a four. On the second ball of the 18th over, the best bowler in the world, Jasprit Bumrah, bowled a deadly pinpoint yorker on the middle stump to Iyer.

That delivery was a wicket-taking one, and any other batter would have gotten out to it, but the 'man on the mission' Shreyas Iyer didn't.

Iyer stayed low and timed his shot to perfection to register a boundary. He opened the face of the bat and directed it wide of Reece Topley at short third man to find the gap for a four. The shot in itself was quite unreal, but the thing that made it more special was the execution under immense pressure against the modern-day great Bumrah.

That's the shot of the IPL for me - AB de Villiers

Speaking after the match, the Proteas great AB de Villiers, who was known for playing outrageous shots, labeled Iyer's boundary off Bumrah as the shot of the IPL 2025.

AB de Villiers said that even he would have gotten out to that yorker, but the 'fantastic player' Iyer showed his brilliance and hit a boundary off it. The South African legend also stated that he is a big fan of Iyer.

"That's the shot of the IPL for me. That's hitting the middle stump - the perfect yorker. That's literally breaking the toe of the bat. You can't get that away. That's maybe breaking my stumps if I'm facing it.

"He gets a four off that and puts the pressure straight back on MI against the best bowler in the world. Just incredible batting - pure, brute force and strength. What a fantastic player!" AB de Villiers told JioCinema.
