Punjab Kings (PBKS) have made a strong start and secured back-to-back victories in the IPL 2025 season under Shreyas Iyer's captaincy. Shreyas has been a key factor in their success and surpassed Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in terms of the highest win percentage as a captain in tournament history.
Shreyas Iyer guided Kolkata Knight Riders to a dominant title victory last season, but the franchise opted to release him before the IPL 2025 mega auction. Punjab Kings signed Iyer for a massive ₹26.75 crore and appointed him as their new captain. The batter has led from the front in the first two matches.

Shreyas entered the tournament in top form after a stellar Champions Trophy 2025 campaign. He scored back-to-back unbeaten half-centuries to help Punjab Kings start IPL 2025 with a 2-0 record. He played a match-winning knock of 97* against Gujarat Titans (GT), securing an 11-run victory.
The 30-year-old followed it up with an unbeaten 52 in PBKS' eight-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). He appears to have overcome past struggles against short-pitched deliveries and has emerged as a strong contender for the Orange Cap, trailing just behind Nicholas Pooran in the elite list.
