Shreyas Iyer has been sidelined after a shocking injury during the third and final ODI against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in Sydney on October 25. Shreyas Iyer hurt himself while sprinting forward for a tough catch to remove Alex Carey off Harshit Rana’s bowling.
However, India’s ODI vice-captain completed the catch brilliantly, but he collapsed in pain soon after and was taken off the field. His condition worsened later, and he was immediately rushed to the hospital in Sydney.

Medical scans confirmed a ruptured spleen and damage to his rib cage, causing internal bleeding. It all happened due to the awkward fall. Now, a fresh update came on the Mumbaikar.
As reported by Cricbuzz, Shreyas Iyer underwent surgery for a spleen injury on Tuesday (October 28). The surgery went smoothly, and Iyer has now completely recovered. The 30-year-old cricketer remains in stable condition and is out of the ICU.
However, the Indian vice-captain has been advised to rest for about five to seven days before resuming any physical activity. The report reads, “We can confirm that Shreyas Iyer recently underwent surgery and has totally recovered since. The surgery was apparently a minor procedure, but it has required Iyer to rest for at least five more days, possibly even up to a week.”
Dr. Rizwan Khan monitors Shreyas Iyer’s health in Australia
Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Indian cricket team management have been keeping a close eye on Iyer’s recovery. Dr. Rizwan Khan, the Indian team’s physician, is currently in Australia, and he has been regularly monitoring Iyer’s health.
The BCCI has also arranged for a family member to travel to Sydney to be with him during this period of recovery. As of Tuesday, Iyer’s condition has shown steady improvement. He has been answering phone calls, eating home-cooked meals prepared by local friends, and even managing his daily chores without much trouble.
He is in good spirits and feeling much better than after the incident. Once Iyer completes his recovery period, the medical team will review his progress and decide when he can safely fly back to India.
