India National Cricket Team star batsman Shreyas Iyer has issued a fresh update on his health after suffering a severe injury in the recent ODI series against the Australia National Cricket Team.
Shreyas Iyer took to Instagram to drop a new update on his health on Monday, November 10, as the India National Cricket Team gear up for the upcoming all-format series against the South Africa National Cricket Team at home.
Shreyas Iyer suffered a near-fatal injury
The Punjab Kings captain and the India ODI vice-captain, Shreyas Iyer, was part of an unfortunate incident during the three-match ODI series against the Australia National Cricket Team.
He suffered a freak injury during the third ODI against the Australia National Cricket Team while fielding at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Iyer got injured upon impact after he took a catch running backwards from point to dismiss the wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey. Just after grabbing a blinder, he looked in pain and immediately clutched his rib cage.
The physio came in running to the ground and took Shreyas Iyer out of the field. He was soon taken to the hospital for further assessment and was later admitted to the ICU.
Later, a report revealed that Iyer's injury was more severe than it looked, and things could have gotten worse if he hadn't received adequate treatment on the ground by the BCCI doctors.
Shreyas Iyer provides a fresh update
Iyer actually had a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding, and he underwent a minor procedure before being discharged from the hospital on November 1.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) provided constant updates on the batter throughout his stay in the hospital and revealed that Dr Koroush Haghighi and his team in Sydney, along with Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala from India, ensured Shreyas Iyer received the best treatment for his injury.
Meanwhile, on Monday, November 10, Iyer shared a photo of himself on the beach with the caption, "Sun's been a great therapy, Grateful to be back, thanks for all the love and care," clearly mentioning that he is totally fine now.

Currently, there is no timeline on when Iyer will achieve full fitness, and as per reports, he might miss the upcoming ODI series against the Proteas.
Gautam Gambhir is unsatisfied with the Indian T20I team
Recently, the BCCI shared a Gautam Gambhir interview on their official website where the head coach said that they are blessed to have star all-rounders like Axar Patel and Washington Sundar in the T20I, but added that they are currently nowhere close to where they want to be heading into the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. He said:
"For me, I think they will play a very, very important role come the World Cup. And not only the World Cup, not only in subcontinent conditions, the quality they have, I think they're going to flourish in most of the conditions as well. And that is why I feel that I think Washi evolving in the last 7 or 8 months has been a huge success for Indian cricket.
"Axar batting at No. 5. Again, I was given a lot of responsibility to bat at No. 5 in the Champions Trophies and exceptionally well. Bowls tough over, bowls in the powerplay, bowls in the middle. So I think we've got enough options. But again, we're still not where we want to be in 3 months down the line. Hopefully, we'll be there."
