Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer's snub from the Indian side for the Asia Cup has been made due to his 'own man' attitude, which does not hold well with the current management's ideals and dynamics.

The Asia Cup Squad has been announced, and ever since, Shreyas Iyer's snub from the squad has been under discussion, and several theories have been built around the seasoned batter's non-selection. Agarkar's claim for a lack of a role for Iyer has been dismissed by the internet and ICT fans.

A few of the decisions have been questioned openly, one of them being the inclusion of batter Rinku Singh, who has seen a significant dip in form throughout the last few years in the IPL as well as the Indian domestic games.

Shreyas Iyer's 'own man' ideal is perceived as resistance to Gambhir's team-first mentality

This has been evident since the Champions Trophy, that Head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar have not been on the same page with Shreyas Iyer's possible inclusion in the Indian team.

Reports have revealed that the Indian management views Iyer as a player who is his own man, unwilling to adopt any set standards by the Indian coach or the management. He is a player who has his measures, and his nonconformist attitude has cost him a position on the Indian side.

For Gautam Gambhir, he works at a model comprising loyalty and adaptability as well as a team-first mentality; however, Shreyas, who has an independent attitude, is a complete misfit in this setup and a resistance to Gambhir's approach.

Performance is no longer a criterion for the Indian Team selections

Shreyas Iyer's omission was bound to raise several questions, since, by all cricketing logic, Iyer has no reason to be dropped following the superlative form and sheer class he delivered during the IPL and the Champions Trophy before.

The decision of the board on Iyer, hence, suggests that performance and form are no longer the criteria to be selected for the Indian national team. As numbers favour Iyer, the team management has prioritized bowling, adaptability, and dressing room dynamics over batting form.

As a result of these factors and the disagreement in policies, as well as the mindset of the current Indian management, he has been left out of the squad.

Ajit Agarkar backed Shreyas Iyer for the Champions Trophy; Gambhir had other plans

Reports have surfaced that Shreyas Iyer would have been snubbed from the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy as well. The KKR skipper was nowhere in the list of preferences of Gautam Gambhir ahead of the ICC event; however, it was Agarkar who pinned his support on the middle-order batter.

This was undoubtedly one of the finest gigs played by the Indian selector, since Iyer dominated the Champions Trophy with the bat and scored the most runs for India. However, this time, Agarkar also seemed to have given in to Gambhir's yes-man culture in the Indian team.

Caught between the two players, Iyer and Shubman Gill, the selection committee decided to take sides with the Test skipper since he is more aligned with the team management's vision, unlike Iyer.
