Just a minor niggle, should be fine after this game - Shreyas Iyer
Punjab Kings were invited to bat first in the match, and they registered a below-par score of 157/6 on the board. The PBKS batters just couldn't get going and only two players - Shashank Singh (31*) and Prabhsimran Singh (33) - breached the 30-run mark.
Defending the score, Punjab Kings couldn't get the job done as Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal batted brilliantly to finish off the match in the 19th over.
Speaking after the match, Shreyas Iyer opened up on leaving the field midway through the second innings, saying that he suffered a minor niggle, but would recover by the time Punjab Kings play their next game. Shreyas Iyer said:
"Just a minor niggle, should be fine after this game. If you see the majority of our batters like to go from ball one, we’ve struggled to assess the wicket when we bat first. Otherwise we’ve not been able to capitalise on the starts we’ve been getting. We weren’t able to set a total we could defend."
Credit to Virat and the boys - Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer credited Virat Kohli and RCB for playing well in the match, and he also talked about the opening duo of Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya. Shreyas Iyer said:
"If you see the positives, we got a great start, the bowlers have been doing a tremendous job. Credit to Virat and the boys, they played well. We keep talking about adapting to the wicket, once the ball gets old it doesn’t skid off the wicket that well. Both of them (openers) are great strokemakers, it’s hard for them to comprehend if you tell them to slow down. Need to take the bull by the horns and see to it that we get a good total on the board for the bowlers."
While talking about his form, Shreyas Iyer said that he is in a great mind-space and just needs to get off to a good start to play big innings. He elaborated:
"I’m in a great mind space, I just need to cross 10 runs, and I can take on the charge. Don’t want to give reasons, want to stay in the present as much as possible. We’ve got six days off, important that we go back to the drawing board, also important we rejuvenate and refresh, need to make sure we’re in the best shape possible before the next game."
How did PBKS perform in the previous IPL match against RCB?
In their IPL previous clash, Punjab Kings showcased a strong all-round performance to beat Royal Challengers Bengaluru by five wickets in a 14-overs-a-side clash at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 18, 2025.
After winning the toss and opting to bowl first, the PBKS bowling unit made full use of the conditions. Arshdeep Singh dismissed Phil Salt and Virat Kohli early, while Marco Jansen, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Harpreet Brar ran through the middle-order and lower-order, with Xavier Bartlett also chipping in with a wicket
At one point, RCB were 42 for 7, looking in danger of being bowled out under 50. But Tim David’s explosive unbeaten 50 ensured RCB got to 95/9 in their 14 overs.
Chasing 96, PBKS lost wickets in clusters and found themselves at 53 for 4 as Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar troubled them a lot. But Nehal Wadhera stood strong at the one end and slammed a crucial 33* off 19 deliveries to take Punjab home with 11 balls to spare.
