More than 3.84 lakh people are struggling to cope with the devastation, with farmlands and homes washed away. In this hour of crisis, Iyer has urged everyone to donate generously to relief efforts. The Punjab Kings have already joined hands with Global Sikh Charity to raise Rs 2 crore, aiming to provide urgent assistance to stranded families.
Even the IPL franchise has already contributed Rs 33.8 lakhs to fund inflatable rescue boats that are helping evacuate people, deliver medical aid, and supply clean water. These boats will also serve as disaster-response tools in future emergencies.
The floods, caused by heavy rains and swollen rivers, including the Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi, have left about 61,000 hectares of farmland underwater in Punjab.
