Shubman Gill assaulted by Gautam Gambhir's biggest disciple on MS Dhoni

In a rapid-fire round on the sidelines of the ongoing Delhi Premier League 2025 (DPL 2025), Nitish Rana laughed at Shubman Gill when he was pitted against one of the all-time greatest captains, MS Dhoni. Shubman Gill and Nitish Rana are both considered close to Gautam Gambhir.

In the viral video, when asked to pick between Sanju Samson and Shreyas Iyer, Nitish Rana confidently picked the Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain, even though the Delhi batter had played under the Kerala wicketkeeper-batter’s captaincy for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2025.

Rana also picked Shreyas Iyer against Rajat Patidar despite the latter winning the maiden IPL trophy for the RCB after 17 years. However, Iyer also led the Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL 2024 as well as took the Punjab Kings (PBSK) and Delhi Capitals (DC) to the finals in 2025 and 2020, respectively.

But when Hardik Pandya was pitted against Shreyas Iyer, Rana went with the Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who is currently the Mumbai Indians captain and also represents India in the T20Is. However, Hardik Pandya lost the race to Shubman Gill in the next captaincy battle round.

Rana felt Shubman Gill is a better IPL captain than Pandya. Notably, Gill played under Pandya’s captaincy and won the IPL with Gujarat Titans in 2022. However, the Indian all-rounder left the franchise in 2024, and Gill took over as the Gujarat Titans captain.

Rana picked Dhoni as the best ever IPL captain. Looking at IPL captaincy records, it is easy to pick Dhoni, who won five IPL titles as CSK captain. He also took the CSK to 12 IPL finals, and his unmatched ability to get the best out of his players made his leadership legacy unmatched.

Madras High Court orders trial in MS Dhoni’s ₹100-Crore defamation case

Meanwhile, the Madras High Court has cleared the way for the trial in a ₹100-crore defamation case filed by former India cricket captain MS Dhoni. The case from 2014 is against two media channels and a journalist who allegedly linked Dhoni to the 2013 IPL betting scandal.

Justice C.V. Karthikeyan has appointed an advocate commissioner to record Dhoni’s statement, which means the 44-year-old will not have to appear in person in the court. His legal team argued that his presence could cause public chaos due to his massive fan following.

Dhoni claimed the remarks made during a TV debate were defamatory and damaging to his reputation. The case has been stuck for almost a decade as the parties sought various legal reliefs, but with Dhoni’s affidavit now on record, his lawyers have urged for a fair and timely verdict.
