Shubman Gill celebrates his 27th birthday on September 8, 2026, with an already remarkable international career behind him. The India captain has established himself as one of the leading batters across formats and has accumulated 7,291 international runs, including 21 centuries and 32 fifties.
Shubman Gill's career has also been defined by a long list of records. From becoming the youngest men's ODI double-centurion to producing a historic 430-run match in Test cricket and leading India to their biggest Test victory, the right-hander has repeatedly found his name in the record books.
1. Player of the Tournament in 2018 U19 World Cup
Gill was one of the standout performers when India won the 2018 ICC Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand. He scored 372 runs in the tournament at an average of 124, including an unbeaten century against Pakistan in the semi-final. His consistency earned him the Player of the Tournament award.
The performance also strengthened his reputation as one of India's most promising young batters before he made his senior international debut.
2. Youngest men's ODI double-centurion
Shubman Gill became the youngest player to score a double century in men's ODI cricket when he smashed 208 against New Zealand in Hyderabad on January 18, 2023. He was 23 years and 132 days old at the time, breaking Ishan Kishan's previous record.
His innings came off 149 balls and included 28 fours and five sixes, making him only the fifth Indian batter to reach an ODI double hundred at that point.
3. Youngest Indian to score centuries in all three formats
Shubman Gill completed an international century in all three formats at a remarkably young age. After scoring hundreds in Tests and ODIs, he brought up his maiden T20I century with an unbeaten 126 against New Zealand in Ahmedabad in February 2023.
That made him the youngest Indian to achieve international centuries across Tests, ODIs and T20Is.
4. Most runs by an Indian in a Test match
Gill produced one of the greatest individual performances in India's Test history during the 2025 Edgbaston Test against England. He scored 269 in the first innings and followed it with 161 in the second, finishing with 430 runs in the match.
The aggregate surpassed Sunil Gavaskar's previous Indian record of 344 runs in a Test match. Gill's 430 is also the second-highest individual match aggregate in men's Test history, behind Graham Gooch's 456.
5. Only batter to score 250+ and 150+ in the same Test
Gill's Edgbaston masterclass also produced another extraordinary record. His 269 and 161 made him the first batter in Test history to score more than 250 in one innings and more than 150 in the other innings of the same Test.
It was an extraordinary display of consistency over two innings, with Gill becoming only the second batter after Allan Border to score 150-plus in both innings of a Test.
6. Highest score by an Asian batter in a SENA Test
Shubman Gill's 269 at Edgbaston is the highest Test score by an Asian batter in a SENA country. It also became the highest individual score by an Indian captain in Test cricket, surpassing Virat Kohli's 254 not out against South Africa.
The knock also surpassed Sunil Gavaskar's previous highest score by an Indian batter in England.
7. Most runs by an Indian captain in a Test series
Gill finished the 2025 England Test series with 754 runs from five matches. He averaged 75.40 and scored four centuries, making it one of the greatest series performances by an Indian batter.
His aggregate also stands as the most runs by an Indian batter in a Test series in a SENA country. Gill's 754 runs came in his first series as India's Test captain.
8. Only Indian opener to score hundreds in all formats in the same year
Shubman Gill achieved another rare feat by scoring international centuries across Tests, ODIs and T20Is in the same calendar year. His ability to produce hundreds regardless of the format underlined his adaptability at the top of India's batting order.
9. Led India to their biggest Test victories
Gill has been captain for two of India's biggest Test wins in recent history. Under his leadership, India defeated England by 336 runs at Edgbaston in 2025, their biggest overseas Test victory by runs.
In June 2026, Gill then led India to their biggest-ever Test victory overall, with Afghanistan beaten by an innings and 300 runs in Mullanpur.
The Afghanistan victory surpassed India's previous record innings win of an innings and 272 runs against West Indies in 2018.
10. Only captain to score a century in an IPL playoff
Shubman Gill has also created history in the IPL. He became the first captain to score a century in an IPL playoff when he smashed 129 for Gujarat Titans against Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2 in 2023.
He has since added another playoff century to his name, taking his tally of IPL playoff hundreds to two. His 129 also remains the highest individual score in an IPL playoff.
Other major records Shubman Gill has achieved
Shubman Gill's record book extends well beyond these 10 achievements. He is the fastest Indian to reach 1,000, 2,000 and 3,000 ODI runs and finished 2023 as the highest international run-scorer with 2,154 runs. He followed that with 1,764 international runs in 2025.
He was the Player of the Series in India's 2025 England Test campaign and became only the third captain after Don Bradman and Sunil Gavaskar to score four centuries in a Test series. He is also the youngest Indian captain to win a SENA Test.
In T20Is, Shubman Gill's unbeaten 126 against New Zealand was India's highest individual score in the format at the time. He has also won the ICC Men's Player of the Month award four times, the most by an Indian player.
His IPL achievements are equally impressive. Gill won the 2019 Emerging Player award and the Orange Cap and MVP award in 2023. He has scored 129, the highest playoff score, and his 47-ball century against Rajasthan Royals is among the fastest hundreds in IPL playoff history. He has also become the only player to score more than 700 runs in matches won by his team in a single IPL season, having accumulated 713 runs in Gujarat Titans' victories in 2023.
