Shubman Gill was all set to take charge of the team in Test cricket
In the last few days, there have been a lot of reports about who will be the next Test captain of the India National Cricket Team. However, what has been common between all those reports is that they have suggested that young batter Shubman Gill is all set to take charge of the team.
It was reported that Shubman Gill already had discussions with members of the team management related to the future. All the officials of BCCI, along with the coaching staff of the team, were on the same page related to youngster Shubman Gill being given the role.
However, with reports of last-minute changes in the Test captaincy, this brings Jasprit Bumrah along with Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul back in the picture. They were all in contention to lead the team, but it was ultimately Shubman Gill who gave the nod ahead.
Rishabh Pant was reportedly chosen as the vice-captain of the India Test team
After Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Test cricket, it was originally Jasprit Bumrah who was slated to lead the team as he was the vice-captain. However, the reports claimed that with him being the key pacer, the team management and BCCI don't want to give him extra burden as he is already injury-prone.
The name of Rishabh Pant emerged, too, but the keeper-batter was chosen as the vice-captain of the team. The Southpaw has been the best batter of the Team in the Tests in the last few overs, and hence, he was considered for the leadership role.
BCCI is all set to announce the India National Cricket Team Test skipper next week through a presser
KL Rahul was not trusted to be the captain as the BCCI isn't looking at him as he is already 33-plus and hasn't been as consistent as he should have been. They are of the opinion that his average of less than 35 in 50 games after 11 years of Test cricket isn't impressive.
The BCCI is all set to announce the India National Cricket Team Test skipper next week. There will be a special press conference for it, and also during that, they will be announcing the squad for the England series, which will mark the beginning of a new edition of the ICC World Test Championship.
