Shubman Gill exposes Rohit Sharma's aggressive side, drops truth bomb about Virat Kohli

India’s newly appointed Test captain, Shubman Gill, has finally opened up about the two men who deeply influenced his cricketing journey, and they are none other than Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Notably, both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma retired from Test cricket earlier this month.

In a heartfelt video shared by the Indian cricket team on Instagram, Shubman Gill shared how these two legends left a lasting impact on him both as captains and batters. The Indian Test captain feels fortunate to be able to play with and share a dressing room with the modern era legends.

Shubman Gill reflects on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s lasting legacy

Shubman Gill said in an Instagram video, “When I was a kid, I was always inspired by the greats and the legends of Indian cricket and was very fortunate to be able to play with so many of them, be it Virat Bhai or Rohit Bhai.”

The Gujarat Titans captain said that both Kohli and Rohit were very contrasting in terms of their style, but said that it was very inspiring to see both of them working towards a common goal to win for India. He pointed out that Virat’s and Rohit’s captaincy styles were very different from each other, but they both were ‘very similar in their own sense.’

Gill revealed that watching Virat Kohli from close quarters taught him what it means to lead with raw passion. The young Indian star said that he really loved Kohli’s hunger, his fearless attitude, and his obsession with taking charge under pressure.

He added, “Virat Bhai was always very aggressive. Always wanting to lead from the front with hunger and passion. Whereas Rohit Bhai was also aggressive, you might not see that on their reaction or on their expressions, but he was also someone who was always very attacking on the field.”

The right-handed batter further noted that Rohit Sharma was very calm and tactically always very present. Gill spoke about Rohit being crystal clear with his players, always in control, and leading with quiet confidence, saying these are the qualities that he learned from him.

At the end, India’s new Test captain said that the recently retired legends like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravichandran Ashwin have shown the national team how to succeed in overseas conditions. He also said that England’s Test tour of India last year was his favorite series.

Gill signed off by saying, “Guys like Rohit Bhai, Virat Bhai, and Ashwin Bhai, they have given us a blueprint on how to tour away from home and win matches and series. Yes, it's one thing to be able to deliver and execute, but because we have that blueprint, we know how to tour away from home and win matches and series.”

Notably, Gill will be seen in action on Sunday, May 25, when Gujarat Titans will take on Chennai Super Kings in their IPL 2025 league match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
