Shubman Gill injured badly? Indian vice-captain goes down with Indian captain

India's opener Shubman Gill was the only player alongside the captain Rohit Sharma who didn't train ahead of the team's final match of the group stage against New Zealand in Dubai. The absence of these two players initially raised huge fitness concerns for the team.
However, it is believed that both Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill are likely to be available for the next game. Apart from these two players, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was also back in the nets and batted at full throttle.

Shubman Gill absent from the training session
The Indian cricket team had a three-hour practice under lights at the ICC Academy, Dubai. All the players took part in the training session except Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma.
India's vice-captain Shubman Gill didn't even come to the ground and decided to stay indoors. The reports claim that he is unwell but will be fit before the next game against New Zealand on March 2.
Gill is not only India's vice-captain but also their best batter at the moment. He also led the team in the match against Pakistan when Rohit went out of the field due to hamstring issues.
Shubman Gill's numbers in Champions Trophy 2025
Shubman Gill has been in superb form with the bat this tournament so far. He has made significant contributions with the bat in both matches and has looked fluent with the bat.
The 25-year-old opener struck a valiant century in the first match against Bangladesh to take India home. He remained unbeaten on 101 off 129 balls in this match for his first hundred in an ICC tournament.
In the second match, he took apart Pakistan's star fast bowling line-up in a breathtaking display of batting before being castled by a magnificent delivery from Abrar Ahmed. Gill scored 46 off 52 balls with 7 fours to his name.
Overall, he has scored 147 runs in two matches at an average of 147 and a strike rate of 81.21. He is likely to play a key role for India in the knockout games.
Both teams aiming to top the group
The upcoming match against New Zealand is of no context since both teams have already qualified for the semi-finals. The winner of the match will decide the winner of Group A and both teams will be looking to carry their winning momentum forward.
Recently, both India and New Zealand have won fight ODI matches on the trot. India defeated England in all three ODIs of the series and then defeated Bangladesh and Pakistan in the first games of the Champions Trophy.
On the other hand, New Zealand won all the matches of the tri-series and then the first two games of the Champions Trophy as well. It is likely to be an exciting contest between these two sides.
Apart from these two batters, Rishabh Pant is also back and trained for an extended period in the nets. Fast bowler Mohammed Shami bowled at full tilt to India's star batters despite an injury scare against Pakistan.
